Calvin & Hobbes may hold up better than anything else on the shelf. I recently decided to complete my collection from childhood, so this was either a new read for me or I read it multiple times as a library book, and it's just bonkers how consistently good it is — as readily able to be goofy and screwball as it is pensive and thoughtful. Even as I've aged into the parents' bracket, there's simply no better capture of imagination and shenanigans for me than this series. It does everything it attempts so effortlessly — just one romp after another, full of wildcard energy and zest for life. I adored it before puberty; I adore it now as I approach the hill.

One of my favorite C+H books - it's the snow goons that make it great. Classic.

The seventh collection of the wonderful Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. Full of hilarious, thoughtful, insightful, cynical, non-plussed and surreal moments as Calvin explores the reality of death, life, and the average existence of a 6 year old boy in 1980's America. Reactions can range from laugh-out-loud to subtle nods of agreement at this brilliant reflection of life. Both a time-capsule from that time and still relevant, if you only read one comic strip, read this.
Features Calvin's battle against a hoard of evil snowmen. One of the longer story arcs.

Calvin accidentally makes a deranged Mutant killer monster snow goon which in turn creates an army of deranged Mutant killer monster snow goons and they're coming for him. Calvin also redesigns his duplicator with an ethicator to create a physical manifestation of his good side but it has unintended consequences...

Calvin and Hobbes collections are always worth rereading. There seems to be something new to gain each time. Whether it's a deeper pondering of Calvin's philosophical soliloquies, a recognition of the underlying tenderness, or an enriched appreciation for Watterson's art, I always take away something new. Calvin and Hobbes is more than a comic strip, it's a thoroughly human, and always hilarious, literary adventure.
