Oh, Fables, how I missed you! Also, this series is getting good again. That is all.

I think this is the first Fables collection I've found to just not be good. Both the plot and the dialogue were really disappointing. The resolution of the major arc felt like it came out of nowhere, though that might be because I don't remember everything that's happened in it. It's possible that the groundwork was laid for it and I just don't recall enough to see how all the pieces fit together. Still, I feel confident saying that this arc wasn't anywhere near as fully realized or satisfying as the Fables-in-exile/war against the Emperor arc.

A great end to a very dark villain. His defeat could have been stretches on a bit into a long more epic fight like he had with Bellflower but still, the end was pretty perfect in my eyes.

In FABLES: SUPER TEAM, volume #16 in Fables collection, we have our favorite fables going all super-hero on Mister Dark. Pinocchio, an avid fan of comic books himself, devises a plan that a team of superheroes is needed to defeat the unbeatable Mister Dark. Exiled to Fly's kingdom of Haven the fables are gathering their strength and most fearless warriors to take him on.

I love the nod to the golden age of comics here with all the superhero references. Paying respects to the "roots" of comics books. Story-wise, this was an okay collection. Felt like a lot of pages for little movement. My favorite part was probably the first few pages of the "F-MEN." I was thoroughly entertained by the picture that was painted there.

Emerging themes: Buffkin returns home, Mrs. Spratt gets a new do, and Sleeping Beauty hits the road.

Outside of the Crossover (which, really, doesn't seem fair to count), this is really the first of the Fables trade paperback that I didn't completely love. I was totally into the whole assembling of a super hero team to defeat the big bad, but it was pretty rushed--probably reading these in single-issue form would have made it feel less so, but in the trade paperback form it just felt like it was a small blip in the Fables storyline.

The ending was super anticlimactic.
SpoilerAfter all the build-up to defeat Mister Dark, it was strange to just have it all go away so suddenly and without a real battle. While I loved the idea of Bigby's father finally stepping it up and helping out, it felt like all the build-up until now was unnecessary.

I'll be interested in the next to see if they somehow redeem what I felt like was a weak ending. Still really enjoy this series, either way.

I felt like there were some things referenced in this one that I didn't quite remember from the previous ones. Not sure if that's because of the amount of time that's passed since I read the others or if I just missed something somewhere or what. Either way, this one was all right, but it didn't wow me.

This was a pretty weak volume, but I’m curious to see what happens to Buffkin, and to the pups.

I liked it, but not among the best of fables which is a high mark.

I liked it. It's been a while since the last volume I read so it took a little while to jog my memory of what was going on. While not filler, this sort of had the feeling of finishing up lose ends to get on to different things.
