Wow. I just love Leigh Bardugo's writing. I hope we get a spinoff because I don't want to leave this world and there is so much story left to be told. I would have given this 5 stars but there is one moment that other reviewers have commented on that felt jarring and out of place. It's this moment that makes me believe there will be a spinoff because there is so much fallout from it that is unresolved. I'm going to give Ms. Bardugo the benefit of the doubt and assume that something is coming in a future book.

I'm definitely going to have a book hangover after this one because I don't want to leave this world and these rich wonderful characters.

If you were just meh about the Grisha series give this duology a try. Even though I love the Grisha series this is even better.

Crooked Kingdom is the second book in the Six of Crows series. There’s always a lot of pressure on a second book when the first one was such a success. Yet Crooked Kingdom is even better. While Six of Crows was slow to get going and it took me a little while to warm to the characters, Crooked Kingdom hits the ground running.
In Six of Crows, we see our gang travel to Fjerda for their heist, but in Crooked Kingdom the action is focused on Ketterdam. Leigh Bardugo does an amazing job of making the city come alive. The detail in the world building is phenomenal. There was a grittiness to this sequel which came from the setting and the closeness of that setting added to the intensity and suspense.
Most of the time I have a favorited character but, I don’t think I could possibly pick a favourite in this book. As I enjoyed all the main characters, something which I feel rarely happens. Leigh Bardugo crafts each of their backstories expertly, weaving their past into their present and taking the time to give each a solid arc. Kaz, Inej, Nina, Jesper, Wylan and Matthias are all such great characters. I loved seeing them all grow over the course of the two books. Their interactions and dialogue are brilliant as well, I just loved the scenes where they were all together.
It's tough to talk about the plot without starting to give things away, and that wouldn't be fair, because so much of the joy of Crooked Kingdom is in the disparate but interlocking narratives and their coordinated, clockwork reveals. Bardugo has a stage magician's flair for misdirection, but I can say this: I didn’t think it was possible for this book to surprise me more than Six of Crows did, but there were so many twists and turns. Kaz is in his element in Ketterdam and at his cunning, scheming best. I was hooked all the way through and was never quite sure what was going to happen next.

I was very hesitant to read this book after the torture of the shadow and bone series, yet now I wish I read it early. As it’s one of few YA fantasy series that I enjoyed. This is a book I will 100% be returning to Ketterdam.

The first book was definitely better, while this one was good, the story was played out pretty slowly. There are some moments that could've been cut out for sure. The pacing of the book was pretty slow, but I still liked how the ending was, except for one character's ending.

Synopsis: The second book is in the Six of Crows duology. This book is about six 'criminals' that go in a totally insane trip to save someone that is in a highly guarded prison for money. Well, after they were able to finish the assignment the man gave them this assignment, the man backstabs them. With this second book, its about these six characters trying to get back at the man that made a fool of them. Throughout this book, these characters went through every single thing possible. Everything is turned when the city in which most of the characters are from turns there back on them.

Writing Style: The first book I've read by Leigh Bardugo was Six of Crows, and I absolutely loved it. I was never interested in the Grisha trilogy, but Six of Crows caught my eye instantly with the cover and the summary. After a few chapters, I was hooked and couldn't keep the book down. Well, with any high fantasy book it takes a long while to get into it. A high fantasy novel requires a reader to have patience and a good mind in getting into the novel. But, Bardugo has a way in capturing the readers for a great high fantasy books. This duology had a great story with six beautifully written characters that I instantly adored each and every one of them.

Characters: Usually with multiple character point of views, I choose my favorite and can catch myself only wanting to read that persons pov. But this one, I couldn't actually pick a favorite and stick with that one. I absolutely loved every single one of this characters and I was always found myself excited to read each and every chapter. I found a little of myself in each character and couldn't resist falling in love with Kaz, Inez, Matthias, Nina, Jesper and Wylan. These characters are amazing and I am sure every reader will connect with them. And wait until you see this character buildup throughout these two books because it's one of the best character buildups in all the books that I have read.

Opinion: If you want a high fantasy duology that will capture you with every twist and turn that a series can throw at you. Then, this Six of Crows duology is completely for you. Yes, I know some people may not have liked this series but everyone has to understand that this is in the high fantasy novel. Meaning it is a whole different world that you would need to understand and get into so it could take some time. If you are not a patient person or if you don't have the mind set that you need for these novels then this series will not be for you until you have gotten into the high fantasy genre itself. Also, look at the sides of this book and its so pretty! Other than that, this is an amazing series that I would recommend to any young adult reader. So, please enjoy.

My favorite part is probably the development of the character's backstories and the mysterious untold love stories.
Usually not a fan of adventures but I liked it. The plot isn't too much to be true, and the writing style is humble (that's the way it makes me feel). Just enough, not telling more than necessary, leaving space to the reader's imagination.

5 Stars!

I have a feeling that if I read this last year ACOMAF would've had completion for my fave book of 2016...
