literally every single book I read by saffron sucks me in from the get go, I completely love her writing, the whole doomed love and unrequited love thing is one of my fave things ever.

saffron has became one of my favourite authors everything she writes hits the mark for me, I’m working my way through her backlist right now and I’m obsessed every single time.

medicine man is a doctor/patient age gap forbidden romance between Dr Simon Blackwood and Willow Taylor. Willow has been sent to headstone because of an incident in her 18th birthday. Willow has a condition that she fights to get by every single day, Simon is the broken man that Willow falls hopelessly in love with.

I loved everything about this book, the tension between the two of them, the smouldering looks Simon gives Willow, the MOUTH on this man

Okay, so, first of all this book was intense and frustrating and sad and sexy as fuck. Second of all, it pissed me off more than once with the “I want you, but this is wrong and a mistake but I’m still going to bang you and come all over your hairy vag that the hospital won’t let you shave. Also, I’m going to break your heart, but I also love the fuck out of you, but god forbid I admit it because I like to make things unnecessarily difficult!” 🙄
Then again, the last couple chapters were awesome and made me feel all the feels and the sexy parts got me all hot and bothered and made me want to jump my own husbands bones all damn day.
In other words, do I recommend this book? Fuck yeah, I do. Just get ready to be agitated and horny, ya’ll.

This book had so much potential to be great but the plot and romance really fell flat. The tension and spice was great but the dynamic between the 2 main characters was a weird push and pull. It almost felt like a one-sided enemies to lovers. The MMC hated that he was attracted to her and the FMC spent the whole book pining after him.

The mental health representation was great. I do think that the MMC had BPD/EUPD and not just depression though. I know it's a forbidden romance but at times I felt a bit icky about their coupling because he was clearly leading her on and she was becoming dependent and obsessed with him.

The ending was my favourite part of the book and the only time we see the softer side of their relationship.

So I finished Medicine Man a few days ago while I was on an airplane to my thanksgiving destination. It was a really good read, the dynamic was new and different for me as a reader. Which is something that I really liked about this book. It wasn’t as dark and mentally twisted as I thought it would be but I loved this trope concept. It took a little while for the story to get going but it was a good lead up to the H becoming very dominant and obsessed with the h, which incorporates another concept that I love! The only reason why it was not five stars was because I think I was so excited about the plot line, but then ended up being a little disappointed. It was also a little forgettable when I finished it which means I didn’t think about it a lot after I read it. But maybe that was because I went straight into another book right after. But it definitely is a book that should be on people’s tbr!

5 stars. What is it with me and my love for forbidden romances? Like the more unethical and forbidden the more I want them to be together and this book gave me everything that I wanted in that aspect.

I love Saffron Kent’s writing style. Absolutely adore it. It’s different but very addictive. She does dialogue really well and I love that her characters are so flawed and imperfect and human. She handled the topic of mental illness really well and I feel like it was a realistic and brutally honest portrayal. This book is heavy on the angst and I did shed tears but it all comes together so beautifully in the end.

While I did love the relationship between Willow and Simon for me Willow herself was definitely the best part of this book. I absolutely loved her character. She’s a very complex character with a good heart. She’s so strong, much stronger than what she gives herself credit for and she isn’t afraid to go for what she wants. She’s someone I identified with on some levels and I found it so easy to empathize with her.

I liked Simon a lot but I feel like he was definitely the least developed of the two. He has a history and it’s pretty emotional of course but at some points he felt ‘by the numbers’ predictable. I knew how he was going to react before he did it. He was definitely a very hot character (and a dirty talker yaaaaas!) but I wanted more from him.

I loved the ending and the epilogue and I’m excited that some of the side characters are getting their own books.

I’m now on a mission to read everything by this author because I love her writing so much. I can’t recommend this one enough.

***This was another buddy read with the fabulous Melanie. Thanks for reading this with me!
