We (that is to say I) love Forbidden or taboo romances for myriad reasons. The seeming wrongness of the couple, the sheer insurmountability of the obstacles, the steam, the whole forbiddenness of their love. But it is so, so tough to get it all just right, without it becoming tawdry or just plain sleazy. Saffron Kent is a brilliant writer and manages to weave together all these elements seamlessly to give us a pretty epic romance.

Willow is young, introverted, and a huge Harry Potter fan, she’s also a patient at a psychiatric facility. Dr. Simon Blackwood is her psychiatrist, and well known in his field. She might be the patient, but they’re both broken in their own ways, and make up the jagged, uneven pieces of an imperfectly perfect whole. Almost the moment they meet, there’s an instant attraction, an electric current between the two of them that they’re helpless to resist. But the author gives them the time to grow into their attraction, and eventually their feelings, while not compromising on the steam (oh the steam

Excellent

Five stars for how this deals with mental illness, five stars for addressing the possibility of doctor patient romantic relationships in some circumstances. Don't think it needed quite such graphic sex, but it didn't detract from the story. Highly recommended.

Wow. So different, so poignant and difficult. I truly loved this story. More to come

Loved Simon Blackwood

DNF 60%.

This book reminds me of winter rain, of those dark gloomy cold days which make the midday skies look like a bleak winter night, where there is a sharp chill in the air, and your exposed skin hurts and no amount of sweaters stop the shivering.

It reminds me of all of that. I think it is because of the brutal depiction of mental illness, and how it isn't romanticized. Depression is a savage beast, and the portrayal of it was brilliantly done. The bleakness, the sheer pain of it, it made me take a step back and calm myself down because of how much detail the author put into it.

Take it from me, kids, don't read this if you're going through an episode, or are at risk of one. It will hurt you.

I'm struggling with this rating, About 50% it was fantastic and then it just started going down down down. So 5 stars for the first half, 1-2 stars for the second.
