Okay. Umm...wow. my mind is completely blank because of the last two intense chapters I just read. It sure was a very grand beginning.
But Imma tell, I really didn't expect this book to be THIS MUCH exciting. I mean, I couldn't put it down. It was like I was watching every scene right in front of my eyes. SO MESMERIZING.
I love the plot and the whole war and revenge that is slowly happening. 10/10 RECOMMEND IT ❤️

If you like Game of Thrones, you will enjoy this series and all the political intrigue that comes with it. If you do not enjoy political intrigue, steer clear. It honestly doesn’t even feel like there’s a plot in mind with this book, as though we go through the entirety of it WAITING for the premise to make itself clear. It does not.

As a first time Danmei reader I was very apprehensive to have this one be my first look into the genre. Many say that MXTX would be the ideal place to start, but I had an absolute blast reading this and would recommend it as a first introduction to Danmei! Shen Zechuan is such a multilayered character. So much so, that sometimes even readers don’t know exactly what is going through his head. Xiao Chiye is the perfect counter balance to the coy and naïve act that Shen Zechuan plays up and he sees right through it. They are both two birds in a cage and only the other can truly understand the emotions that the other feels.
Be warned that this book’s plot is about the political atmosphere that these characters are in, but the romance between Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye doesn’t feel forgotten or lackluster at all. If anything, it makes all the moments that we do get to see them all the more entertaining. Their banter is written perfectly and the “push and pull” dynamic is fun to read.
Looking forward to the next volume!!

I had to motivate myself to go through the novel a bit, but I do love political novels so I fought off the adhd and stayed. And I enjoyed it. While writing this I’m already starting the second volume and I am excited to see more of our two mains. Their dynamic is truly Something lmao.
The start (esp i think the first 14 chapters) was a bit slow and there’s a lot of world building packed in. But everything gets easier to read and understand and enjoy would definitely recommend and reread

"I'm a person who survives on hatred"

I had been wanting to read this for a long time and never ended up getting around to it even after I preordered the English localization. I'm glad I decided none of my other books matter because I really enjoyed this. There were times I definitely didn't understand a word of what was happening, but it's okay because I figured it out later on. (Maybe.) I'm very curious to see where the story goes
