Even though it was clearly not a finished, polished discworld novel, I could not give this any less than 5 stars. There were certain sections of the book which lacked the Terry Pratchett sparkle and felt like more of a sketch but overall this book to me was a fitting goodbye to a series of books which will always be special to me. I have grown up reading discworld (my first one, Mort, was picked up aged 11) and I can not think of another season which has such an impact on me.

I know that Terry Pratchett had other books in the pipeline (and oh how I wish they would be published although completely agreeing that they shouldn't be) this does feel like a final book. Maybe it was the death of Granny Weatherwax but it really did feel like stories were being tied up. Terry has never avoided death in his books ( in fact being one his favourite characters) so I was not prepared for how moving this particular death was. I sobbed my way through the entire chapter. I loved the conversation between granny and Death and the words will definitely be something that I remember and come back to. It is impossible not to think about the death of Granny's creator while reading and I
guess that is what gave it added poignancy.

The other element that made it feel like a final novel was the return of so many characters. It was great to see Magrat again. I also liked his the story of equal rites was flipped on its head with Geoffrey wanting to become a witch.

And now to live in a world with no new Pratchett novels! I'm not sure I'm ready.

Terry Pratchett didn't finish this before he died, which is clear; events seem a little disconnected, and there isn't quite as much in the way of coherent thematic elements as in the rest of his books. But what's there is, among other things, about people learning to carry on, live their lives, be themselves, and strive to make the world better after the death of someone very important to them and influential to the world at large. It's his farewell and his last exhortation to his readers.

Thank you Terry.

Oh man! Holy cow! I never physically meet Terry Pratchett and I don't think I would have wanted to meet him as a fan. A brief forgettable exchange as he signs my woren copy of Small God's. It would still be great don't get me wrong, but I would have liked to have grown up with him his big gangle friend down the street that got to talk about the trickling of light and the weight of the dark. The way Mr. Pratchett thought has influenced the way I think. Like a childhood friend that taught me all the forbidden thoughts my parents never thought to warn me about. I am desperately sorry I was never able to be his friend or nemesis. This book will always be a treasure to me.
