I've held on to this book for much longer than I intended. Discworld has been such a part of my life that I wanted to stave off reading the last book for as long as possible.

Though it has a definite beginning, middle and end, it is clear that it is unfinished, with the host of characters feeling a little haphazardly thrown together. There was so much more he could have written.

But even with that, The Shepherd's Crown is, if not the best ending to the series, a beautiful goodbye to its readers. I finished it thinking about how lucky we were to have Sir Pratchett for as long as we did.

A wonderfully sad and terrific ending.

Reread 2021: the audio was finally available, and I found there something different in Stephen Briggs' voice, almost as though his grief had aged and worn out his voice. The afterward details that this was Terry Pratchett's final book, which breaks my heart every time.

Tiffany has lived as a grownup since she was nine and took on the Queen of the Fairies. Now, actually on the verge of adulthood, their paths cross again. The barriers between the human and the fey have fallen and the elves are ready to wreak havoc on humanity again. There is a continuation of the minor romance between Tiffany and Preston, but not a lot of heat to that romance. Surprises abound, with a young gentleman who wants to be a witch. Jeffrey and his goat Mephistopheles thread their way through this story, defying expectations in much the same way as Tiffany herself.

I love this series. I love the way that empathy and creating community permeates the entire series.

I really like Tiffany's character and how she developed over the series. It comes full circle when she and the queen of the fairy's become friends and she brings all the people and feegles together at the end.
