The last book in the wonderful series and I found out it was Sir Terry Pratchett’s last novel before he passed too. This was my first time reading it and, like the others, was so enjoyable! Very interesting plot, loved the characters and development, too many laugh out loud moments to count, and a very satisfying ending. It hurts that there won’t be any more of this series. His writing and humor was such a gift to our round, giant star turtle-less world.

There is an air of sadness to this book that is undeniable. It is as lighthearted and fun as any of the Discworld novels, but there is a quiet awareness of its finality. Not sure if it is an intentional decision, a side effect of Terry Pratchett state of mind, or both, but it works. It is definitely rushed towards the end, but mostly saved by a bittersweet epilogue.
For the record, I have only read about 12 or so Discworld novels, I opted to finish the Aching books first to rip a band-aid of sorts. I did not want to end the series on what could’ve been a flawed artifact, or worse, a rough draft. But I was pleasantly surprised, sadly. He still had it, even in his final days.

Too short, really. A good wrap up to some things, and sad that it was his last. Rest in peace, Sir Pratchett.

A little messy but it turns he hadn’t finished when he died! The plot is almost incidental to everything else. Tiffany is great, my daughter found Geoffrey insufferable!
The final Tiffany Aching book and the final Discworld book. When an old enemy starts to stir, Tiffany must rally the other witches to help fight it off.
I enjoyed this book, but I didn't love it. The thing that stood out most to this book is that I felt this book really required Tiffany Aching to step up and we saw a lot of growth from her as a result. Being able to see this really allowed me to enjoy the book.
My biggest criticism is that the pacing felt too fast, especially with the climax and the build to the climax of the book. These felt really rushed and I felt the plot was mostly forgettable. Though reading the afterword of this book, we learn that had Pratchett had more time on this Earth, he would have most likely added more to this book. So this made me feel bad that the biggest criticism of this book was due to his illness that eventually took him from this world. He was diagnosed back in 2007 and the doctors thought he might only have under 2 years. So I am very grateful that we did get him for another 8 years and he was able to write an additional 5 Discworld novels before he left. I am grateful that he was able to write this book and finish it before he left. Do note that this was published after his death in 2015.
The book was shorter and not quite as developed as the other Tiffany Aching books, but very understandable considering the condition Terry Pratchett was in while writing. It still captured the characters very well, and it brought back so many witches from previous books. Overall, it was a great read. Tiffany Aching is still the epitome of the kind of witch...I mean person that we all should strive to be.
