I can't tell you how many times I teared up whilst reading this. Like, just starting with the dedication and then tears appearing at regular intervals. And I'm a pretty minor league fan - I've got tons of the Disc left to explore. But still. Sigh. Yeah, I wish that Pratchett had been able to expand it and polish it - a little more of this, a little less of that - but I will still clutch it to my heart and be elated with what we got.

Although the book is unfinished, it is still a chance to revisit some favourite characters, and see the Discworld changing, with a possible male witch, the coming of the steam engine, and the last stand of the elves.
Reading the book is tinged with the sadness of the knowledge that it was Terry Pratchett’s last book.

This was Pratchett's last novel before his death, and I understand it was polished up a bit by others before publication. The afterword discussed how he would undoubtedly have done more work on it before allowing it to be published, had he been alive. Neil Gaiman tantalizes with a scene Pratchett would have included but could not. Plotwise, I did feel as though this was the weakest of the Tiffany Aching books, but it was so nice to be back with these characters one more time, when it seemed we wouldn't even get that, that I didn't mind terribly. Goodbye, Discworld. We will miss you!
I really, sincerely wish that I could give this book the at-least-four stars it would deserve by its plot, characters, general feeling and basically the fact that it's the last book Terry Pratchett ever wrote. It's a good last part to the Tiffany Aching series, with some trademark humorous and moving bits and all the hallmarks of a worthy Pratchett book. Unfortunately, there's an added layer of bittersweet and sense of loss put on by the fact that the book is absolutely unpolished, definitely unfinished and almost unrefined by the high standards of Pratchett's writing. I always had trouble finding the telltale signs of his terrible illness taking hold in his later books, finding them different but not that badly written. This, however, and with all due respect, reads at times like below-average fanfiction, which makes the experience frustrating and not just slightly saddening. On a somewhat positive note, at least this semi-raw material makes you appreciate the man's skill with the pen even more than before. You can actually see the potential in bits of rather awkward dialogue, feel how the author is telling rather than showing things, all the while knowing that had he been sound in mind and body, the text would have slowly, by further editing, been pressed into a diamond of flowing and precise prose. Definitely worth reading for certain events alone, but damn, the man is sorely missed.
This was Sir Terry’s last book, and it no doubt would have been longer if Alzheimer’s hadn’t taken him from us. And also he was at the point of writing what he wanted. The preacher John Donne was reported to give his own funeral sermon when he was near the end, and that’s exactly what Pratchett did here with Granny Weatherwax’s passing.
I'm so sad this journey is over, but I am comforted in that I am still young in my Discworld adventures, so there are many more stories yet to discover for me. But Tiffany Aching will always be my favorite.

The afterward made me cry and I'm sad to say goodbye to the Discworld books.
