This book was a LOT. In a great and possibly overwhelming way.
I'm a huge fan of dual POV in books, and Atlas Six has a whopping SIX perspectives. As is the case with most multi-perspective stories it took me a while to really get a hang of each character, and of course had some perspectives I loved and others I may not have liked as much. All the characters had well developed personalities and motives, and it was great to learn about all of the intricacies of their magical abilities and how it has affected their lives.

This book takes place in an magical academic secret society, with the six characters going through an initiation process where only five will be able to continue into roles within the society. Throughout this the characters are faced with many types of magic and deception that even some characters powers can't see through.

This was my first book of Olivie Blake's that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read Atlas Paradox to find out what happens to the characters next. The way Blake writes is both poetic and intelligent, definitely seems like a writer to keep an eye on as her books shape contemporary novels.

Překrásně vyprávěný příběh o těch nejlepších z nejlepších. S magickými schopnostmi nevídaných rozměrů. Ukrytí před světem v Alexandrijské knihovně. Bojující spolu i proti sobě o místa v tajemném spolku. To je Atlasova šestka.

A každý ze šestice dostane prostor čtenáři ukázat, zda právě on či ona bude oblíbencem.

Dark Academia? YES. POC? YES. LGBTQ Characters? YES.

The book is about a secret society that picks 6 extraordinary magicians (medeians) every decade to learn and read sacred text on time, space, wealth, language and power that is hidden away from the rest of the world. But at the end of the year only 5 are initiated into the Alexandrian society and one is eliminated.

The concept itself is very intriguing. What’s very interesting is the powers the medeians have. It is not your typical powers in superhero films or books such as super strength or invisibility, it is a lot more complex than that.

With that, the writing was beautiful. Is it easy to understand or is it an easy read? No. There times where I felt lost on the narration and the settings of some scenes in the book. The world building of it could have been better… It was definitely lacking some important details about the history of the society to answer some of the questions we have while reading.

There are times the book was very slow, especially in some chapters that revolve in characters that we don’t particularly like. I just wished there were more action and magic rather than constant arguments about who is screwing who…

The characters are one of the most gorgeously flawed group of individuals I have ever read. But sadly since there are so many characters that are introduced, the multiple povs really showed less about some characters and a lot about others. I do sense a favourite of the author. The most overlooked, in my opinion, character is Reina Mori. Her powers being a naturalist wasn’t expanded enough until the very end but still powers like Tristan Caine has that go beyond what is said about him in the book. We will just have to see in the next book hopefully on how extraordinary these medeians are.

What utterly confused me was the end. It definitely left the book in a cliffhanger but the scenes before leading the end of the book made me really confused who the antagonist and in some case who the protagonist is too… Ezra being shoved into the plot at the end left a bad aftertaste and the time traveling narrative in some pages left me dazed… Like what happened.

I still have hope for this book and I see that I shouldn’t be too harsh since it is only the first book of the duo logy or a trilogy but I shall fully review it when the series is over.

Other than that, I give this book a 4/5

Tore through this, but didn’t end with quite the satisfaction I was looking for. Hoping the follow up gives some good answers to a lot of open questions.
