Most of this book was ok, but numerous chapters I purposely skipped the end of because those women were literally claiming to be preachers/pastors... "called of God" to pastor, which is 100% unbiblical. Therefore God did not call them to do that. This I found annoying, but I've been leary of VOM books and at this point do not want to read any more. They're just becoming too liberal. -Just being biblical here. Pitching the book.
This book really amazing to read. I won’t rate it because it’s actual people’s lives. All the stories were unique and inspiring.
I don't have much to say about this one, but I enjoyed it! Almost cried on multiple occasions. God's work in the lives of people all around the world, through so many different ways is incredible (and helps me reevaluate my perspective on some issues). Books like these help me to see the vastness of God, and help motivate me to seek Christ and serve him more earnestly. I'm thankful for that, and I believe the book in sparking that has fulfilled its purpose.
edit: I would also like to point out, as other reviewers have, that there is mention of some of these women acting as preachers/teachers, etc., which I disagree with. Nevertheless I appreciate their stories.

God will call anyone He chooses and these women prove that sometimes one must step up, be strong, and stand firm for Christ.
I shared this book on Facebook, urging others to read it. Here's my post: Voice of the Martyrs: this book is something I encourage everyone to read it. It will open your eyes about those who suffer for Christ. It will open your eyes to other religions who persecuted Christians (Islam, Hindu, Buddhism and various other tribal beliefs). It will rewrite your heart and soul and show you the true meaning of following Christ.
Even though these testimonies will span the decades, you will see similarities to today's culture and society as it were decades ago.
Instead of spending your money on a cola and junk food or even that lazy day when you purchase fast food; put off buying that shirt or shoes; take a small portion (only $12) out of your vacation fund; make a sacrifice and buy this book.
Don't be afraid to have your heart rewritten by God. This is one book that will give you hope and faith.
What more can I say than that? Sure I could break this down, talk about excerpts that stood out in my mind, and other virtues, but it would never be enough. What I posted on Facebook say it all: it will rewrite your heart and strengthen your hope and faith.

Such an important reminder-- my beliefs do not get me beaten imprisioned, etc. Would I be like the women detailed in these stories if I was in their place? And what a reminder for the simple life.
This book was very interesting and inspirational. That said I read some of the reviews before I started reading this book and I have to say, I feel for those who totally missed the whole spirit of the book. Some focused on the fact that these women were preaching or evangelizing - while I know what the Bible says, who is going to preach and evangelize if the men aren't willing too or if there aren't enough men to do so? In fact, most of the women once they married, took a "back seat" for lack of a better phrase and their husband's carried on.
I prefer instead to see what this book is conveying, that the underground church in other countries are being persecuted, while we sit in relative comfort and ability to worship when, where, and how we want to. There is some mention of prostitution but there were not actual acts mentioned, and sadly, it's a fact of life and even prostitutes need love and the Word of God shared with them. There is mention of rape or attempted rapes, again it's sadly one way female Christians are persecuted for their faith.
These women faced rape, forced marriages when they were already married, the murder of their husbands and children, time in prison camps, beatings, starvation, sickness, and so much more and still they went out to spread the Gospel. They won many and for that one day they will hear "well done", they will be rewarded for their efforts and their sufferings.
