Ok y’all, I have to DNF for right now, my brain doesn’t have the capacity to concentrate right now
I'd give this more 2 1/2 stars. The Professor is often said to be the "first draft of Villette. Shirly is much better! While long and dragging at points, it does have it's touching moments. However, I did want to throw the book against the wall at the very last sentence. If I left that out though, I would have enjoy the novel.
It can't even begin to hold a candle to Jane Eyre though.

Shelving this to clear my “Currently Reading” for the thesis.
Did I finish reading Villette for class? Depends on who’s asking. The answer is “no”, unless you’re Dr Suze, in which case yes of course I did.
Don’t tell her I said that.

The writing on loneliness and self-denial is almost unbearable in Villette, but there are enough moments of beauty and humor to keep you going. Second most crushing ending of any book I’ve ever read!!!
slow-paced
slow, but it’s enemies to lovers kinda and she’s so valid for falling in love with a weird little man who’s rude and angry …. too bad he’s french

Pity that Jane Eyre is the one that receives all of the attention; Villette is a much better display of Charlotte's skillful prose.
