This was my least favorite of the three books, but still good. I did find that this book was less about survival and more just a basic realistic fiction story (you'll know what I mean if you read it) and I wish that it'd been more similar to the first two.
I did like how she combined the characters from the first 2 books, but I felt that Alex's voice had changed between #2 and this one... He was headstrong in his story but in this one he seemed not sensible at all. He was frustrating.
I saw on Susan Beth Pfeffer's website that she is thinking about writing a fourth and I could see where there is still a lot of story left to tell.

Spoiler
When Miranda killed Julie, I was stunned. I'm still stunned. And I really want a 4th book to find out if Alex forgives/understands.
I'm glad the series is over. I think it would have been better if we heard both from Alex and Miranda. I was sick of hearing from Miranda. I like Alex better, and Miranda's interpretation of his thoughts weren't enough. Oh well. It was good enough, but not great.
This book was probably my least favorite in the series. Mostly because of the romance. I think I would have REALLY liked the romance...if it hadn't happened so quickly. They could have introduced the Morales and Co sooner and made it less rushed. But I love the direction the series took in this novel. I love how hopeless it always gets. I love the characters and how unlikable they all are at times. I love how desperate they are to survive and stay together. But mostly, I love that this is a book I can sit down with in the afternoon and finish by 10 pm, feeling like I've read something that is actually worth my time.
Still enjoyable, but one thing annoyed me, and another thing disturbed me.
The annoying thing: insta love. I didn’t feel invested in Alex’s and Miranda’s relationship because where did it come from? What’s the foundation? All of a sudden they are making out and in love?
The disturbing thing (huge spoiler): Miranda’s “mercy” killing of Julie. Just because she was paralyzed, she was somehow better off dead? Shouldn’t Julie have had a say in this? And isn’t this way out of character for Miranda, who couldn’t even let her cat die?

Loved the first two in this series. This one seriously is summed up in the description. It could and should have been great. Miranda is back to spoiled. Alex is like a different character and I hated him. And Julie is now the little angel? It just seems like she forgot her characters completely. So disappointed!

I love this series. It is realistic about humanity, yet hopeful...Miranda never becomes perfect – she is always a teenager, but she does grow over time...
...There are no miraculous recoveries here...Pfeffer does a wonderful job describing the terrible things that happen but building in hope that the survivors will find a way to stay alive...
...Overall, I loved the book. I don’t love it as much as I love the first one, but it is probably neck and neck with the second in my mind. You MUST read the first two, and if you like those, you will like This World We Live In.

Wow really sped up near the end. A crazy ending. Horrific things happen in the last part of this book. It's awful, that people could be driven to that.
Quick read because I ended up skimming a lot of it because too many people starting going bat shi* crazy and nothing got better for the characters. Not going to bother with the final book.
I can't with this series. I really should have just stopped before I started.
