I didn’t like the prose much. The stories were interesting, though.

This book was a collection of entertaining short stories following a Cherokee family throughout generations. Sprinkled in there was some elements of fantasy and horror. Based off of the blurb of the inside cover, I was expecting the stories to be a little more bone chillingly freaky but they weren’t. However they were still enjoyable. One thing which was kind of irritating was once the stories started to get interesting they just ended. Which I get is the point of a short story, but like, come on. Additionally, I wish the stories were a bit more connected to each other. They all seemed that they were just standing on their own except the last two and the sparse mention of Ama.

Man Made Monsters by Andrea L. Rogers is a collection of gothic horror short stories following a Cherokee family across the centuries. This collection has all the classic horror characters we love from vampires to werewolves to zombies and more. Alongside the supernatural horror elements, there are also human horrors that reflect real life (i.e. school shootings).
I am not a huge fan of short stories but I enjoyed this one. I think it helped that we were following the same family throughout the centuries.
I loved the building of the culture and learning more about the Cherokee culture. The horror element with the “feeling like someone is watching me” along with the gothic vibe had me hooked.
The artwork throughout is stunning and sets up each chapter beautifully.

Loved everything about this book. Each individual story is amazing and the common thread in them was so subtle I literally didn't notice and had to go back to reread sections when everything came together. But it had always been there, I just wasn't able to pick up on it until I had the full picture.
My great-grandfather and the rest of my family have always talked about how our life is informed by the last seven generations and how our decisions must take the next seven into consideration. This book reminded me of this ideology and warmed my heart even while being some of the most excellent horror I've ever read.

Really enjoyed this collection of horror short stories. They feature multiple generations of a Native American family. And as always, humans, not monsters, are the true horrors of our society.
