Can I unread this?

I'm glad I picked up this book because I am reading book 2 of this series this month and wanted some background. It's an action-packed paranormal romance that I couldn't put down.

Willow Thornheart is the Keeper chosen to fulfill the rite of Coven Thornheart. She is the eldest of her Thornheart sisters, a powerful family of witches. She bears the weight of being the protector of her family and completing the tasks mother earth has given her to gain all of her powers. If she fails, her family will lose all of their powers, and something evil is out there to make sure she does just that.

Warrick is alpha of the hellhounds. He doesn't feel emotion or love, but he is drawn to Willow. She is his mate and they are destined to be together, but he has his work cut out for him. She doesn't want to get involved with Warrick as a lover because she is afraid he would destroy her heart. So she keeps him at arm's length until evil spirits go on a killing spree and start to threaten her family. Will he be able to protect her from powerful villainous forces or lose the one person who has claimed his soul?

The chemistry between Willow and Warrick is strong as they are forced together to solve the killings and find out who is after her family. Willow carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and Warrick is there to help her bear the weight. Warrick gradually wears Willow down with his growly, sexy maleness and his true devotion to keeping her safe. There is so much happening as they get closer to solving the mystery of who wants her family dead and the action is off the charts.

Willow's family is a great cast of supporting characters and I look forward to hearing their stories. Not to mention each of the witch's familiars who are bound to them for life. Familiars are shifters or animals and my heart broke for Willow's fox shifter familiar, Ren. The poor man was put through a horrific ordeal and I hope to read more about him in the series.

If you enjoy non-stop, action-packed suspense, magical characters, and a jealous, possessive, protective romance, give this book a try. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Thank you to Ms. Gray for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

No joke, when you read from the MMC’s POV, it is literally the most vulgar thing I’ve ever read. 1.5 pages into his first chapter and I DNF’d. That aside, the writing itself wasn’t great and I was already close to quitting. The author was very repetitive and relied HEAVILY on exposition. Definitely not for me.

This is the spin off of a previous series that Sherilee Gray wrote, and I didn’t read the previous series but I was not lost at all. If anything I was completely drawn into the story without being left out of anything . It did make me want to go back and read the previous series though.

I enjoyed Willow’s character immensely she’s tough as nails take no prisoners. Always protecting her family, and extended family. She’s trying to take on the world on her own with no help whatsoever even with her mate. She fights his help the most, because she thinks they are cursed as a family.

Merrick was a whole other creature all together. He is absolutely obsessed with Willow because she is his mate but doesn’t quite understand feelings as he is a hellhound. I loved his tenacity but also his patience with Willow and how he would do anything to make her happy.

The plotline and story overall was really good. I loved the magic and the different super naturals. I can’t wait to see what happens with the rest of the sisters especially since we sort of got a sneak peak at what was coming next.

umm I was unaware of the "omega verse" of it all? which I guess there's nothing wrong with but is not my personal cup of tea. Also possibly related to the aforementioned issue, the whole "alpha" thing just sort of made the love interest read like being in the mind of a registered sex offender? it was off putting.

A Curse In Darkness was pretty good. I loved Willow and Warrick 's story. It's one I've been waiting for since the Knight's of Hell series. I expected their story to be good which it was but it exceeded my expectations. It was magic filled. It was steamy. There were twists and turns and so much more. I definitely recommend it.
