Gay cowboys? Say less. This book was short and sweet and I had a good time at Rainbow Ranch. The MMCs were so cute together, and the whole crew at the ranch had such a great dynamic. The spice was spicin’ (hello, sexy time hanging halfway out a window 👀) but also sweet. Both MMCs have a bit of a tragic backstory, but they don’t let it get them down. They live and love with purpose.

The only reason I didn’t go above 3.5⭐️ for this cute little novella is because I felt some of the dialogue was trying a bit too hard to be “yee haw we are country”. As someone who grew up in the south, I can guarantee you we aren’t saying things like “he’s finer than frog hair” every other sentence. A few funny southernisms would have done the trick, but there were so many it was a bit distracting to me.

Overall this was a very cute book, and I am interested in exploring more of M.A.’s work in the future.

Full confession: Cowboy romances and stories aren't usually my thing, however, I'm a fan of the author and thought I'd give this a try. Turns out, cowboy romances are still NOT my thing. As much as I wanted to love the story and the characters, I found all the cowboy language and terminology over the top and cringey. It just felt so forced throughout the whole book and dampened my enjoyment.

When I started the book, I had somehow missed that it was as short as is it, (which is totally on me and not the author's fault) so the pace at which everything happened took me off guard. I don't typically mind Instalove too much, but everything in this happened so fast there was no real lead up. I wanted more flirting and fun leading up to them getting together. It was so rushed it was hard to believe their chemistry, especially given the trouble they'd had finding connections with others in the past. I honestly didn't feel invested in whether or not Wylie stayed.

So, yeah. This book wasn't really for me. It was a fun slice of life story with cozy vibes and pretty much zero angst, so if that's what you're looking for, this book will be perfect for you.

I really enjoyed this book. There was no angst and no third act breakup. These two were super cute together. I liked that Wylie and Boone didn't just jump into bed together. I enjoyed the slightly slow burn.
