About white colonizers who never stopped colonizing; a system of extractive capitalism that doesn’t care about humans; men who care more about each other and themselves than the women they are trying to support; and Indigenous women who believe each other’s stories, believe in each other’s power, believe in themselves, and create and maintain the community and connections to save themselves

I received an ARC as part of a giveaway from Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. This was not my first novel by Marcie R Rendon. The protagonist, Quill, is a strong female. I loved that this book featured a main character with a strong marriage and a family. And while all characters have (and should have) flaws, she was a stable influence in the story. It was also nice to see that running featured in the female characters' interests as so often indigenous stories focus on substance abuse on the reservation. The plot moves at a good pace and features missing indigenous women. The impact of the missing women is felt by those on the reservation as well. I will definitely go back and read more of this author's work.

Intense!!! This book is about the huge crisis of indigenous women & girls being sex trafficked. This story is powerful! Captivating! I want everyone I know to read it!

I am from Minnesota and always love books set Up North (Minnesota speak for the northern part of the state ). Marcie Rendon is a Minnesota author who represents it well. Her use of both languages - English & Ojibwe - is excellent! She creates/related the tension so well!!

My only beef is with the character type of Quill, the mc. Quill is a hero, in the type that yes, there are problems but she creatively overcomes them to save the day. It all seems rather easy. In a realistic fiction book, that doesn't seem too realistic.
