I almost gave this book an extra star because I was so relieved to finish it. In all honesty, I am glad I read it and appreciate the ahead-of-its-time-ness but the satire was just too much for me and the writing is extremely difficult to get through. Nonetheless, if you haven't read it, it might be worth the effort.

Although well written and incredibly imaginative, I cannot help but be offended by Swift’s misogyny in the portrayal of women as the form of grotesque. A challenge to read, and a relief when it was finished!
girl i'm bored and i've read about giant breastfeeding too many times
A scathing criticism of human nature that, 300 odd years later, is still applicable in parts to society today.
A lot of the direct references to historical or “current” (of its time) events are lost on me, even with the helpful annotations, but I still found it enjoyable.
A bit of a slog at times, especially when it gets focussed on measurements, sizes, ‘how things work’, and stuff that my aphantasic brain just cannot visualise and hence struggles with comprehending. Although I suspect some parts were intentionally over-the-top to be satirical.
Parts 2 and 4 were my favourite, with part 3 probably being the weakest (largely the stuff after Laputa).
