It's a very fun and lighthearted read. It does touch on some heavier themes, but not too heavy or too much. I recommend this book for both children and audults. This book also gives me a lot of nostalgia.

Utterly charming and full of sumptuous English grandeur.
slow-paced
This book is most famous for the story of Toad, a narcissist with an addictive personality, and his long-suffering friends. All of that stuff is certainly entertaining, but the lavish descriptions of genteel country living and cozy fire sides are what won me over.
“One of these [doors] the Badger flung open and they found themselves in all the glow and warmth of a large fire-lit kitchen. . . . It seemed a place where heroes could fitly feast after victory, where weary harvesters could line up in scores along the table and keep their Harvest Home with mirth and song, or where two or three friends of simple tastes could sit about a they pleased and eat and smoke and talk in comfort and contentment.”

I read it for the Toppler and suppose I read it in another time, I'm not sure I could finish it.
The MC, while being animals, are closed to human being in nature. But while this aspect is interesting enough, and how strong the characters are built, it failed to engage me more. The main issue is because the author tend to use big words almost all the time and the endnotes didn't really help. I mean, it's kind of bothersome to have to look at the notes everytime I saw new words. So this is a bid disadvantage for a non-native like me.
This 'children' book made me feel of me as an illiterate person who has no scope of imagination.
Ps: I don't like Toad and what a long way to finally see him settled down (not without suspicions).

Beautiful language and writing style just wasn’t fully my cup of tea. Definitely more of a picaresque novel.
