I very much enjoyed the illustrations throughout this book. they are colorful and full of movement. The story romanticizes the idea of crime and drugs quite a bit, which mainly made me feel uncomfortable while reading. I'm glad to have read it, the way the story is told is fantastic and the surprise twist at the end are all great.

A tough read if you have any history of substance abuse or friends/family with a history, but this book was really well written and the twist got me. The color scheme and illustrations felt dreamy and otherworldly, like one might feel on drugs. The main character, Ellie, is completely believable as a junkie and you'll recognize some of her impulses as true to form. Overall, I felt really sad after this read, but I felt moved, as if whoever wrote it was processing some things from their own life through the art and story.

Cute little 20 minute read. I'm not convinced that the ending was fully supported by the exposition (there may be some minor dialogue-related plot holes), but it's decent nonetheless.

IMO it's not worth the full hardcover price but paperback is justifiable.

I finished this a couple of weeks ago but I'm currently terrible at taking photos for reviews. Some things have at least been reviewed on Storygraph, and some things have just been forgotten!
.
It's been so long since I read Criminal that I remember nothing about it so luckily this works as a standalone!
The colouring is lovely but the drawing style made me think the characters were in their 30's when they're supposed to be teenagers.
The plot is an interesting idea but the MC's romanticism of drug addiction sometimes feels like the book is a bit too pro becoming addicted to heroin. The fact it's really short means there's not enough time spent on the actual negative impact on her or the other characters.
The teen boy, Skip, lacked much depth of character and seemed very easily led. The twist was unexpected but not very impactful, I think because there wasn't enough for me to be invested Skip before it.
It was good enough to make me want to go back and reread the rest of Brubaker and Philip's noir stories.

Great stories, with engaging art and connections with themselves and other criminal stories.
