firstly, this is just as phenomenally written as the first two and the first scene with doña maria almost made me cry. everything about aurora's clinic is written with so much care and i was moved by it every moment. adriana herrera is just a true master of detail and worldbuilding.

i absolutely loved how prickly and spooked and constantly avoidant aurora was and apollo - what a man!!! special shoutout to his friendship with cora, i am so glad she gave us more glimpses of it after the second book. this book definitely had the strongest first half of the three and some truly crackling chemistry between the leads.

i will say that the ending was the weakest of them all and the pacing faltered a bit because of it. and while i understood where the third act conflict was coming from, it started to feel a little repetitive and tiresome. as much as i loved aurora's individual storyline, i wish we had gotten page time for apollo's. the whole bride hunt thing felt flimsy and i was expecting more depth to the tia jimena of it all, especially towards the end.

that being said, i had such a great time with this book and this series and am very excited to read her next historicals!!

p.s. despite the narrator of this audiobook being great, i would be remiss if i didn't mention how dearly i missed nneka okoye, the narrator of the first two books. i wish she had returned for this one as well.

  • Adriana Herrera fit in that many sex scenes (truly I lost count) and still managed to have a well-developed relationship between Aurora and Apollo? Perfect, no notes
  • Aurora is running a very much illegal clinic for women to get the healthcare they need and she is being RUN RAGGED in so many different ways and decides to finally have something for herself, aka Apollo
  • Apollo is SO DOWN BAD for this woman omg, he's over here buying her buildings and just trying to convince her she's worthy of being a duchess because he's so ready to marry her
  • Wish there were more Leonas, but the whole point is that Aurora is avoiding them and trying to handle everything on her own, so I GET IT.
  • THAT SAID, it was fun to see the friendship between Apollo/Evan/Cora this time around

The third book in a trilogy. I didn’t know it was a trilogy when I started though, safe to say you can read them as standalone but I think there is some character crossover so if you read them in order you’ll probably get more world building and stronger character development.

Set in 1889 Paris. Physician Aurora Montalban Wright, runs an underground women's clinic. Aurora is putting her life in danger daily as she runs this underground clinic but there are way too many woman unable to get proper care due to their husbands being idiots so it’s a small price for her to pay. That is until she meets the duke Apollo César Sinclair Robles.

Apollo is helping Aurora with her underground clinic. Aurora and Apollo also made some sort of sex pact. Aurora is trying to deny her feelings for Apollo and Apollo is trying to make her his.
