At this point Ruth Galloway feels like an academic colleague in a loosely-related department- I can empathize with the insidious politics and intellectual joys of her work, but am a bit baffled by some of the norms in her field. I enjoy learning about the history of the area and random details about archeology, and actually started watching reruns of Time Team because it's just mentioned SO much. But I'm also disturbed by how much narcissistic evil comes Ruth's way, and how much trauma she's had thus far. This is a solid continuation of her story, with a surprising re-emergence of a past character. I'm always happy to see a new Ruth Galloway book.
Taught plot line and great storytelling, one of the best of this series. So sad to see it end!

Such a wonderful conclusion to the series! Paid homage to previous adventures, and had closure for the main characters. I loved the joke about cozy mysteries!
In the audio book the section transitions were too quick, a small pause would have increased the enjoyment

What a satisfying ending to this series, a series I have loved reading. The characters are friends and I will be sorry not to have a new book in the series to look forward to. Nelson and his team have an old case to look into and Ruth and Cathbad become involved. Sorry to say goodbye to these old friends. Elly Griffiths paints such a great picture of Norfolk, I would love to visit. This has been a brilliant read.
