I loved the concept of an author getting sucked into a world of their own invention and living in the life of one of their characters, and what a wild and entertaining ride this book turned out to be for Adam and Nylian! It was fascinating to experience the magic of elves and orcs and wizards through Adam's eyes, and while he may have been the creator of the universe, its people had minds and hearts of their own. I was so entertained to see how Adam's carefully crafted plotlines fell apart in a matter of hours, and as he scrambled to keep up with the new twists and turns of the story I was eager to see how everything would play out. Nylian was still at the center of everything, but instead of a dashing prince with a harem of female love interests, he was much more focused on avenging his twin brother and flirting with Adam at every chance he got. The two of them trekked all over the kingdoms in their quest for answers, sometimes on their own and sometimes joined by a pair of wizard and mercenary siblings. Adam was super oblivious to Nylian's flirting to the point that I wanted to scream at him to open his eyes, but much to my delight Nylian took matters into his own hands before I could get too frustrated. The two of them had insanely hot chemistry once they stopped dancing around each other, and I fell head-over-heels in love with their relationship pretty much right away. Nylian was every bit the sexy, dazzling prince Adam had written him to be, but with 100% of his energy directed at Adam's pleasure. Nylian's drive to get answers about his brother's murderer pushed the main storyline forward, and I have to say that some of the reveals in this book were pretty shocking for me. I love how much Jocelynn Drake kept me on my toes, even if it led my favorite characters into some pretty dicey situations along the way. By the time Adam and Nylian reached the end of their story, they'd been through all the ups, downs, lefts, and rights of a proper quest and had more than earned a breather from the chaos. I was thrilled by how happily their journey ended, and while a part of me will always be curious about the life Adam left behind, it's safe to say that he's found his home and his true love.

I Destroyed the Elf Prince’s Harem is a standalone book in the multi-author series Fortune Favors the Fae. It is a delightful adventure-romance, portal rom-com that perfectly balances humour, fantasy and romance.
The story follows Adam Lockhart, a clueless author who, with a help of a magical Coin, ends up inside his own fantasy world. Being stuck there, Adam tries to follow his original plot by building a harem for the elf prince Nylian. However, Adam, being the clueless cinnamon roll that he is, is utterly clueless that Nylian has no interest in a harem and instead wants only Adam. It is this dynamic between Adam’s utter obliviousness and Nylian’s growing possessiveness what makes this story so much fun.
Their relationship is a slow burn, but watching Adam slowly realize that Nylian isn’t just a character to recognising him as someone he truly cares for is both sweet and rewarding.
Jocelynn Drake is very clever in playing with this idea that, I’m sure, many readers share — becoming part of our favourite book and having the MC fall for us. But what makes this story special is that Adam isn’t just a reader but the author of that world, which only adds to the layers of the plot.
While the first 20-25% of the book felt a bit slow for me, once the story picks up I had no trouble with fully immersing myself in the story. I loved how the supporting characters added their own unique charm, making it feel a bit like a D&D adventure with a bunch of quirky misfits on a quest. And the overall humour, especially in how clueless Adam is about Nylian’s feelings and flirtations, really elevated the story.
However, there are a few loose ends, but the one I was stuck with is the question of the future. Elves are said to live much longer than humans, so what happens when Adam ages while Nylian remains young? The book doesn’t give us a clear answer, or any answer at all, but this doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the story.
I Destroyed the Elf Prince’s Harem is a fun, sweet and creative read. So, if you love fantasy and romance with a good dose of humour, this book is definitely worth checking out. Jocelynn Drake has done a great job with isekai/portal trope, making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
