Sherman Alexie's book of short stories about life on an Indian reservation. Good to think about how other people view the world. Sometimes I got a little lost in the metaphors; I suppose that's on me.

This is a beautifully written collection of short stories. The honesty in the pages is only rivaled by the potency of the metaphors and emotions that Alexie shares. This is the first Alexie book I've read and I fully intend to read everything else of his I can get my hands on.

I'm not always a huge fan of short stories, but Alexie is a great writer. He mixes humor in with serious topics in a way that makes the stories less heavy without cheapening them. I didn't love all of the stories in this book, but overall it was a good read.

i adored this book. smart and funny and sweet and sad and ETC.

This book was not what I expected - I expected a cohesive novel; this gave me vignettes. That was fine, it made it easier to pick up and set down throughout the bus ride as my friends wanted to talk or I wanted to nap or whatever. Some of the stories were absolutely incredible and very moving, and some I felt I had to trudge through. However, the preface of the book explained that he was my age when he wrote most of these stories, and he wrote far better stories than I would be able to right now. It was okay, and I'll definitely be checking out some of his later work.

This book was a pleasure to read! I read it in high school, and coming from a private Quaker school I had no idea about life on a reservation other than maybe a brief footnote in some history class. When I was younger, we talked a lot about Native American heritage and history, but we never talked about Native American life today. It's beautifully written and very entertaining.

Superb. Seeing how Alexie's craft has evolved is a sight to see, and this one was a delight. Why did I wait so long?
