I have no words to describe how much I liked this book and its author. It was right up my street theme wise and beautifully written.
This book was fascinating to read and created an air of what if. I happen to have been a fan of the TV show "House" and the process followed to diagnose Susannah's problem was very similar to this program - her doctors didn't give up until they found the source of the illness and a solution to start her back on the road to recovery. The what if part falls into the many hundreds of people suffering from mental illness who do not have the resources that Susannah had...who helps them? could they be "saved" if more research, time, medication, tests were available to them? I think books like this are important for those people who have friends or family who might be suffering from an unrecognizable illness - it could help shed light on something that is not within a doctors realm, enlighten them to new discoveries and solutions.
This was a solid book. Very compelling story but honestly kinda terrifying. Went into a lot of detail about the pathology of the disease which was interesting.
This book was recommended to me as a good read, but I thought it was just okay. The writing is pedestrian--but you do have to credit the fact that it's pretty nearly a miracle that she can write at all! I don't, as a rule, care for this kind of book: clear attempt to capitalize on a personal tragedy. The tragedy is real; the monetizing of it always strikes me as sordid.

Excellent book. The fastest I've ever read one, in fact. It was fascinating to go along this frightening journey with Susannah and come out the other end of the tunnel a more enlightened person.
Could hardly put this book down. I finished it in a day. I'm simultaneously terrified and fascinated by stories where people have unusual, unexplained medical conditions such as this.
Incredibly fascinating, insightful, horrifying, but inspiring. It made me have a more informed understanding of the biology behind our behaviors and the link between psychology, neurology, and immunology. Does a GRET job explaining psych:bio/scientific terms — learned a lot!

Been curious about this since seeing the author on tv. A quick read and I learned a lot without feeling lectured.
