While this is a fictional story it was written as if it belonged to the true crime genre. The stories of childhood and the town intermingling with the horror of a small town serial killer keep me turning page after page. The characters were so well written that finding out my favorite was not a real person had me quite sad. I just wish it had more towards the end from the boogeyman himself.

Honestly this book wasn’t my style. I was often confused what was happening and the pace of the story was too slow for my liking.
I think that many people have liked this book, but just wasn’t for me. If you like true crime stories, then this might be for you.

Edgewood, Maryland 1988 - Richard Chizmar guides us through the events where the murders of four young women terrorizes a small town.
The Boogeyman is killing teenage girls. When author becomes friends with the lead detective, Lyle Harper, and local reporter, Carly Allbright, he gets a front row seat to the action. The author, Richard Chizmar, has written himself fictionally into the middle of the story.
In Edgewood, the town is on edge. Is this the work of a crazed madman, or is the work of something far more supernatural? Where do the lines of of truth and fiction blur?
Chasing the Boogeyman is a little bit fiction, memoir, & true crime all in one! Overall, it read like true crime. I thoroughly enjoyed I’ll Be Gone in the Dark & The Stranger Beside Me. This novel took me a couple weeks to read. It felt too long and dry at the beginning. This is the reason I cannot give it five stars. Fans of true crime, give this one a go. It is meta & unique!
