sent off my teens with this- and there's something really beautiful in the fact that 24 hours after reading this i found out that my best friends had named a star for me.

i've been anticipating this book since it was announced- historical fiction, feminism, the space age, humanity looking to the stars in hopes to find our place. i knew TJR would do a good job- and she did.

reading this took me back to when i was 14, when love and comfort was found among the cosmos and feeling like the world was much, much bigger than myself. that's a delicate pocket of time that very few books and pieces of media in general have been able to replicate the feeling of. and for that, i will forever appreciate this book.

huge sentimental ties aside, i do feel like this book fell a little flat. it doesn't make the book unreadable or unenjoyable- but i do wish that more about the falling in love was explored. to me, it felt a bit like jumping from point before to after, and it lacked an emotional depth in that sense? you can tell that there is an attempt, though. personally, i think that 'daisy jones & the six', 'carrie soto is back', and 'the seven husbands of evelyn hugo' do a better job at building dynamics and having more emotionally charged relationships- despite not being romance books.

i did find atmosphere very entertaining, and it has a bucket load of beautiful and intensely meaningful quotes that tie humanity to space and the universe- and that is something i'm (evidently) a huge sucker for.
