Book started off strong and really seemed like a hot empowering story. It lost some point though bc all the roleplay scenes were all pretty explicitly rooted in classism and shame. Also weird was how Cal’s attraction to Aida kept focusing on how she’s fit and toned and looks like a younger woman (like if she’s a hot 46yr old, just be into her as a hot 46yr old, not bc she’s hot like a 38yr old)

Despite that, most of it was good and compelling. Some of the documentary dialogue felt a little dry or heavy handed but still glad the book was written

Last note: Dex felt super shoehorned into this story to keep the series going. Definitely distracting

Where to even begin?
There was a joke that was said that Elodie could have written a book where it was pretty much all blank and there was just a page of Cal calling me a good girl and I would have been happy with the book. While not wrong, this book was just...soooo good.

I've been (not so) patiently waiting for Cal's book since Unfurl. I loved that man's dirty mouth and his overall attitude. This book absolutely did not disappoint.
Cal is basically just a dirty version of a golden retriever in human form. He is equal parts fun, loving, and caring, but has the dirtiest mouth. He knows exactly what he wants and isn't afraid to just go for it and take it. If you've read him in other books, he's a big part of Alchemy and uses their, uhm, services to his advantage. Then Gen brings in Aida. She is looking to go through the Unfurl program to help her heal from her nasty divorce. She is in her 40's and thinks that women should be able to embrace their sexuality and not be ashamed of it. She wants to make a documentary of her journey and she wants to use Alchemy to help her do it.
Cal is all too happy to be involved, he's thought Aida was hot for years. Since she's a public figure, he's seen her on TV, but meeting her in person is a whole other game.
This book took whatever expectations I had and shattered them. Aida was such an amazing FMC. She was so relatable between her thoughts and feelings on sex to her just being a parent navigating life after divorce. She starts the program with Cal, who is 10 years younger than her, and she has her moments of self doubt. Cal did what every single perfect book boyfriend does and worked on shattering all her self doubt. He never forgot to tell her how amazing he thought Aida was and he did everything to also let her realize her true desires when it came to the bedroom.
There was spice (because again that mans MOUTH), there was laughter, and there were sweet moments. There was also a moment that involved some substances and a phone (the sound of bird shit hitting a windshield will forever make me break out in hysterics from now on). It truly was an empowering story. There was no third act breakup which, while sometimes can be a bit eye rolling if not done correctly, but this book did it so, so right.
I seriously cannot say enough good things about this book. It's not even the anticipation of waiting for Cal for 3 books, but the way every character was incorporated so beautifully into this one was *chefs kiss*

I'm going to now go sit in the corner and live with my book hangover for a while.

One word…. BALACLAVA 🥵🥵

Who Knew wearing a balaclava could be made so sexy? Miss Elodie Hart sure did and I love her for it 🥰

From the brief glimpses we got of Cal throughout the previous books, I knew I was gonna love him and boy did I. He can wear a balaclava around me anyday 😉

This was a much anticipated read for me and I am forever thankful to Elodie for being so kind and sending me the arc because I just COULD NOT WAIT. It met all my expectations and I have no doubt it would meet yours too. An absolute banger!
