WOW. I thought the battle sequence in book 1 was great, but this one was SUPERB.

Holy crap that ending!!!!!! AMMMAAAZZZIINNGGGGG

And the freaking chemistry between Veritas and Ian is incendiary. I love what they bring to each other as individuals. UGH. SO GOOD.

Wicked Bite Header
Wicked Bite (Night Rebel #2) by Jeanine Frost
Narrated by Tavia Gilbert
Paranormal/Urban Fantasy. Does not stand alone.

Hands down, Jeaniene Frost is my favorite paranormal author, and Ian is my favorite vampire ever. This is the second of Ian’s books, the first was Shades of Wicked, which I re-read via audible this time before listening to Wicked Bite and loved even more than when I read it the first time.

Wicked Bite Quote

To fully appreciate all that is the Night Rebel series, I feel you absolutely must start at the beginning of the Night Huntress series with Halfway to the Grave. This series is sexy, fun and exciting. The original series follows Cat & Bones, but there have been some spin-off books and series. The Night Prince series was one, and I was a little bit disappointed with that series so I was worried that Ian’s series might not live up to my expectations. I WAS WRONG.
I’m having a problem at the moment.”
“Does that problem have eyes that shoot silver beams while darkness billows behind her like a cape?” He grinned. “Made me rock hard seeing it.”
He was aroused by my supernaturally sociopathic other half?
“Fuck. You,” I bit out.
He nodded. “Solid plan.”

God I love Ian! He may have lost something, but his bond with Veritas is stronger. This is one book where I don’t really care that it ended on a cliffhanger, because I can’t wait to read it again before the next comes out, and that just means we get MORE!!!!
"All I felt was how tightly he held me, how his power sparked against my skin, and how he kissed me with delicate savageness, as if he sensed my turmoil and sought to turn it into raw need instead."

One thing holds true on all of Jeaniene Frost’s books. You can not stop reading. They are one-sitting reads for sure, and Wicked Bite is no exception. I just can’t get enough of Ian!

wicked Bite Bookstagram
“Clever, calculating, and cruel.” Ian’s voice dropped to an insinuating purr. “No wonder I married you.”

Likes:

  • •Exciting and unputdownable

  • •Filled with humor and banter.

  • •It was just a fun listen!

  • •They zoomed from location to location, never a dull moment.

  • •I loved Ian even more in this book.

  • •Cameos from the original series.

Dislikes:

  • •Veritas seemed so immature for her age and lost a little of the badassery from Shades of Wicked..

  • •The memory thing just felt too easy.

  • •The end popped up out of nowhere.

  • •Some of the plot tools were repetitive from other books in the series.

The Narration:

I love Tavia Gilbert in this series. I think she is fantastic at portraying each of the characters’ nuances and accents and you never wonder which character is speaking.

The Down & Dirty:

Wicked Bite was such a fun ride! While I didn’t love it quite as much as Shades of Wicked, I still completely enjoyed every word. It was just a little bit busy and sometimes, toward the end I felt a little lost. There were some plot points that didn’t always serve to move the story forward, then a whole surprising new storyline that popped up at the end. Still, Ian filled the book with snarky humor, and I can’t wait to listen again before Wicked All Night releases.

Rating: 4.25 stars, 4 Heat, 4.5 Narration

This ended in a really frustrating cliff hanger, a plot twist came out of literally no where in the last 5 pages (literally the last 5 I counted). I thought we'd sort of wrapped up the story, then boom, nope. I hate cliff hangers like this, they make me feel cheated by taking away the closure you get from an ending and when they come out of nowhere it's like they're interrupting my story.

Does anyone like this sort of cliff hanger? I think the theory is that not knowing makes the reader more likely to pick up the next book, but feeling thoroughly disappointed and frustrated when I finish a book makes me a lot more likely to abandon the series

I really likely Veritas and Ian in the last book and this book just wasn't quite as good, and then it ended with an infuriating cliff hanger.

Something was missing from this one. I’ve always loved Ian’s character throughout the entirety of Cat and Vlad’s books but his character this time around was just a watered down version of himself. The relationship between Ian and Veritas was also more fizzle than sizzle.

I’ll probably continue with the series. Fingers crossed the next one is better.

For my own reference in case I forget when the next book comes around. Spoilers below

SPOILERS..........

Veritas discovers she has a demon brother and is also betrothed to some golden god that was able to track her after thousands of years because she let her soul sucking second half out of her cage.

They finally kill Dagon, but he screws Veritas over by calling in the council. Ian has several of Dagon’s powers after having his soul captured and consumed by Dagon for a short period of time. (Ian dies in book one and Veritas thinks he lost his memory and forgets about her, but he doesn’t really, which made it unnecessarily awkward between the two of them in the beginning of book two which seemed to serve no purpose and frankly sucked)

Veritas is no longer immortal, apparently she never was (dear old dad really does love her) he never claimed her because of the whole protecting her from the gods thing apparently?

Bones friend Timothy reappears? Ian is his maker. So why didn’t he realize he wasn’t dead??? I can’t remember him from Cat’s books. He was guarding Cain who supposedly is an original vampire and it’s speculated that Cat and Bones daughter can regenerate him. Ian stole Cain’s horn, which is apparently really powerful and also blows the head off of someone if the touch it/try to take it. But it likes Ian so now it’s a bracket he wears.

So now the duo is on the run from the vampire council and the golden god.
