Ivory White was a play upon the fairy tale of Snow White and the Huntsman. Ivory is a rich heiress who has inherited her father’s company. Upon her daily (and predictable! She clearly doesn’t watch true crime) jog, an assassin (who will be known as the “Huntsman”) attacks her and instead of slitting her throat, he tells her to run and never come back.
Which is all good and dandy, but she has no money or phone. If she can’t go back home, where the heck can she really go? She stumbles into a dive bar after walking around aimlessly and encounters Neo and the rest of his misfit roommates who I have personally nicknamed Dopey, Bashful, and Grumpy.
The chemistry between Ivory and Neo was amazing and most of their scenes were full of sexual tension. I loved how they became sort of friends first before acting on any feelings they had.
My major disappointment came from Neo after Ivory had moved back into her Upper East Side life. It felt like he turned Ivory into this booty call..this object of his desire, rather than a person with feelings. It’s attributed to his fear for the relationship, and while I can understand that to a point, I’m really disappointed in him and I do hold it against him.
The twist at the end was perfect and I never saw it coming. Now I know this is a standalone, but I am 100% hoping for a few more books about the other misfits.

This Snow White retelling is fun. The characters are interesting and I’m looking forward to all the others stories.

I loved this modern day retelling of Snow White. I loved Neo and his band of misfit brothers. I love that they found each other and formed a brotherhood that looks after one another. I loved Ivory. I loved that she was dramatic, naive, but also confident intelligent and kind. She and Neo were perfect and I can’t wait for more of this series!
Ivory White is an inspired/retelling of Snow White.
When the huntsman tries to murder Ivory White, but she is let free at the last second, with her nail ripped off and her hair cut off, she runs to the Grimms. A part of New York the modern day princes has never seen. Somehow, she meets a group of three men, all misfits and untrustworthy, but somehow their dirty little home makes her feel safe, especially the mysterious Neo. Ivory gets thrown into a world she doesn't understand, running from the huntsman and falling for a man worlds apart from her own.
I have read a fair share of Cambria Hebert books. I love the majority, some were all right, but this one has a different feel to it than the rest of her books. Yes, it still has its protective hero who always saves the damsel in distress, it has the suspense element , of course the instalove feel. But these characters felt a bit different.
Ivory is spoiled, childish at times, a huge princess, but she is also kind, open, vulnerable and strong. I loved how she changed throughout the story and we saw so many sides to her. I normally don't like characters like her, but I really enjoyed following her. Neo is your standard protective, charming with a bit of mischief hero but he i really enjoyed seeing him afraid, scared and doubting himself because of his feelings for Ivory. The side characters were interesting and fun. I really enjoyed the Huntman's POV throughout the book. And can't wait to see more of their own stories.
The story itself is kind of ridiculous, but so much fun. At first, I didn't know what was happening. But the story is filled with the weird situations Ivory finds herself in. Almost getting murdered, running away, jail, doing laundry, getting murdered again, dead fish being thrown at her, sleeping in a room full of weird guys and a drooling dog. It's just a wild ride. I did guess the big reveal pretty early on which I think was kind of a bummer, but the outcome made up for it. It's an interesting twist to the whole Snow White story. I had fun spotting the reference in the book.
I enjoyed it,had fun reading it. I'm interested in the rest of the series but I didn't love it like most of her books. I feel like we didn't get to know Neo for a long time, so i didn't get invested in him like I did with Ivory, the plot twist/reveal were a bit predictable, and the ending was a bit dragging. I did like how it all wrapped up though. Overall, it's a solid book.

I could barely put this book down! I loved everything about it. The modern day fairytale theme is something I always feel drawn too, but a lot of books have let me down. This book captured me instantly. I fell in love with not only Ivory and Neo, the rest of the misfit boys as well. I wanted to crawl through the pages join this band of loveable misguided men! I can't wait to start Prince next.
I really loved this book. No, seriously, I LOVED IT. Now, this didn't come as a surprise, because Cambria Hebert is truly one of my all time favorite authors. What did surprise me however was the originality and the humanity and the vulnerability portrayed in the book, which made it feel all the more real. Plus, it's a modern take on a classic fairytale, updated to fit the times, and who doesn't love those?
In this contemporary interpretation of the story of Snow White, Ivory White is an heiress, a present day princess in the exclusive Upper East Side neighborhood of New York City. When she is attacked by the mysterious Huntsman and he spares her life, she follows his advice not to trust the people she knows, and runs from the comfort zone of her old life, straight into the lives of an intriguing stranger and his band of misfits.
Ivory is not perfect, and you know what? I love her all the more for it. She grew up privileged and spoiled, but she is unapologetic, and also incredibly kind and compassionate, and does not hesitate to adapt to her new situation when she finds herself without the comforts she is used to. She is a fierce badass who runs her own businesses and takes no shit from anyone, while also being cute and feminine and vulnerable and authentic. In the end she is imperfectly perfect in her own way, and there's nothing more human and relatable and inspiring than seeing that on the pages of this book.
It's the same with Neo. I so loved his character, and not because he is flawless (he isn't), but because he is so clearly human. While he has the traits I always look for, the caring nature and the protectiveness, he is not your standard "alpha" male, and I really appreciated that. There is a vulnerability there, a fear shining through, that makes him that much more endearing, and also original. He has some not-so-flattering moments, but they really do fit into his character's story and it just serves to highlight his humanity.
What I liked the most about the supporting characters was their unpredictability. Fletcher, Earth, Beau, and even Ethan, they all surprised me with something unexpected, an undiscovered facet of their characters, somewhere throughout the story, and it was lovely to see. Fletcher became such an intriguing character with so much depth peeking through, and I truly can't wait to see what's in store for him in his own book!
Overall, I loved the story, all of it. It was original and unexpected, but above all I loved how relatable the characters are, the humanity they displayed. No character was perfect, each had their own quirks and flaws, but that just made them and the relationships between them more real.
I highly recommend this book. It was a very pleasant surprise in a world of books about alpha male cavemen and pushover damsels in distress that need to be saved. It is a story that tells us that it is okay to be vulnerable, to be strong and a badass but still ask for help when needed. I love the message, and I can't wait for what else Cambria Hebert has to say in the next books of the House of Misfits series.

Ok, I really enjoyed this one. Kind of picked it up on a whim this morning and couldn’t stop until I finished the book just now. The book is a retelling of Snow White. I liked that the book was a “new” story but included elements that easily tied it back to the original Snow White. Knowing that this was an MF romance, I was hoping for a why choose type of sitch, but alas it wasn’t (I mean, could you imagine?!) Given that it wasn’t an RH, I still really enjoyed the book.
Although the book isn’t a rom-com, it did remind me a bit of “It Happened One Summer.” In both you have a famous socialite that goes MIA (the h) and a rugged fisherman as the H. I liked that the book had an element of suspense and there was a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming! As for the spice, there’s a couple good spicy scenes, though it doesn’t happen until later in the book.
I really want to read the rest of the series! In Ivory White, you’re introduced to all of the characters who will have their own book in the series. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to after I get some ARC and book club reads out of the way!

Ivory White was a fun, contemporary take on Snow White. I adore fairy tale retellings. This one by Cambria Hebert was just similar enough to the classic to be more of an homage and less of a straight reiteration. The style of writing was wonderful and I'll be picking up more of the books in this series to see where the rag-tag team of supporting characters wind up.
I read this for the Ethan and Fletcher content and stayed for Ivory & Neo. There was so much more to this story than I expected! It was a realistic contemporary re-telling of Snow White and I was skeptical, but I really loved it!
