The end was good, satisfactorily wrapped up enough that if I don’t read the second one it would be ok. I’ll probably take a break and read something else before reading For The Throne, because the tone of For the Wolf was very somber. The whole story was mysterious and somewhat obtuse, the connections between the Wilderwood, Eammon and the other characters not clearly described until Red actively participated in them, took the Wilderwood into herself.

Kiri was a satisfyingly sinister villain, charming when she needed to be, and I found the machinations of Neve being pulled in to serving Shadow more interesting than Red falling for Eammon. I’d be interested to see if the second book shifts perspective to Neve and Solimon’s relationship.

I guess I thought the echoes of Beauty & the Beast dynamic weren’t absorbing; I didn’t understand clearly enough why Eammon was so self-damning; tbe relationship between him and the forest weren’t very clear. How it was revealed was consistent with the story’s ambiance, I just wish it was done a bit differently.

Very cool, unexpected ending though, for Eammon and Redarys.

Liked the book but it was a little slower than I liked. Will probably go back and read it some day soon.

Would do 4.5 if I could

It's been a long time since I've gotten into a book like I did with this one. Whenever I wasn't reading it was still on my mind. It was good enough that, even though I just finished, part of me already wants to read it again.
Unfortunately, I was able halfway through when I realized it was the first in a series. And of course there were parts of it I would have rather have gone different. Overall though I highly recommend for anyone into fantasy with a hint of romance.

This was meh. Intriguing premise, but lacked execution for me.
