This is a great book, especially for my daughter who is eight and gets very upset when her day does not turn out the way she planned.
I love the ending of the book, how the mother and daughter accepted that their special Saturday plans did not work out but instead they could create their own fun. What was most important was being together. So sweet!

A lovely picture book about what happens when your perfectly planned day doesn't quite go as expected! I will definitely keep this on hand in our library, and make sure it's available on days where some of our programs fill up, and we have people that don't make it in and "their day is ruined".

ADORABLE. This book. Is everything. It's like, the updated version of McKissack's Ma Dear's Aprons in which there's only one day a week for mother and child to really spend time together without the interference of work. With a collage-esque illustration style, Mora shows that Saturdays are as much of a construction as we can make them, that even when the pieces don't seem to go together, it can still be beautiful and fun! And the story, UGH, the story! When their Saturday doesn't go correctly, they still manage to have a good time because they've spent time together. SOB. This book is just so sweet--it's no wonder that it's been so incredibly popular, and that it's made such a splash in the children's literature world!

Fun story to read aloud. Teaches children about days of the week, being self aware of anger and how to calm yourself down, and spending quality time with family.
Ava and her mother only get to spend one day per week together... Saturday! This Saturday, all their hopes for the day are shattered as each plan they had gets canceled/ruined. But, as Ava points out, this is still a great day because they at least got to be together.
