This just re-confirmed that this genre isn't for me. I didn't care about the characters or the mystery. I did not guess the plot twist, but I was listening to an audiobook while doing other things, so it's not like I was invested and trying to. It's not the worst book I've read by any means, but it wasn't good.
I really enjoyed this book for some reason. I had figured out the surprise plot twist early on in the story but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book. Maybe enjoyment is not the right word...I found the book interesting and liked the main characters despite their flaws and that some were just bad people. I read another book by this author a few years ago and I remember liking the characters in that story too, even the “bad” people. This was also a quick read (took me less than 24 hours to zip through it) and is a perfect “vacation” book for this quarantined life we’re leading right now.
2.5 - I think I've read too many of these types of books.

So well done
Really liked this one - a thriller from the killer’s perspective full of twists I honestly didn’t see coming. Also cool that it takes place in Dartmouth, which is near enough to my hometown to make it easy for me to visualize. Hen was a powerhouse of a character - manic depressive but also steady, curious, creative, someone I would really like to know. Her husband, Lloyd, was fleshed our enough that when his plot line twists I wasn’t expecting it. Their neighbor, Matthew, was brilliantly written. So creepy and sympathetic, plus his terrible backstory and brother... even Matthew’s wife Mira had some good moments (walking into her craft room yeesh). Highly recommend.

I love Peter Swanson but this one fell flat for me. The twist was, in my opinion, lame and predictable and it felt like there were loose ends with Mira. A quick, enjoyable enough read but not the “holy hell what is happening” Peter Swanson that I love.
I would like to give this book 3.5 stars. If I was able to rate the first third of the book, it would definitely be 5 stars. I loved the concept of a serial killer being able to confide in someone because that person was bi-polar and the police didn't believe a word they said. I think this story had so many possibilities but the story that was told didn't meet my expectations.
