Even if the plot is completely preposterous, I always enjoy Peter Swanson novels. So difficult to put down.

This is my first Peter Swanson Read, and I’m impressed. This story is like a freight train. It takes its time to get going, but it kept getting better and better. The ending is fantastic.

It’s written in third person perspective, which I tend not to like, but this time I was proved wrong. I think it was useful when switching between POV’s because the characters names were being used instead of I/my and I didn’t have to figure out whose head I was in. We rotate through four point of views which can get confusing if not handled well like this book did.

In the second chapter, the suspected murderer is confirmed. For me, this meant all tension was lost and it took a while for the story to pickup steam again. This is why I didn’t give five stars. However, I appreciate this change from the normal thriller structure where we question who did it and rotate through different suspects. This story is more about why they did it.

At the beginning of the story we found out the main character has Bipolar Disorder. Towards the middle, it’s revealed she drives a Volkswagen Golf. At the end we discover she like Chamomile Tea. I’m also Bipolar, drive a Golf and almost exclusively drink Chamomile Tea. It freaked me out that the more I read, the more it seems like the book was about me, even if superficially!

Overall an enjoyable read and would recommend.

meh. a kind worth killing was SO much better. also it really bugs that matthew called michele’s (okay i cant even remember her name because she was so dumb and annoying) phone A THOUSAND TIMES and A THOUSAND TIMES it went straight to voicemail but then he shows up at her house and calls her and her phone rings. FAIL. i hated basically all the characters. which is not a great way to read a book, IMHO.

So many twists and turns! The plot is outstanding! Just when you think you know for sure what is going on, you don’t.

Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson is a compulsive character driven thriller. I haven’t read this author before but I’m in love with his writing style. I could not put this one down.

Hen & her husband Lloyd move from Cambridge after she suffers from a mental breakdown from a bi-polar episode. A man on her street is murdered & she became obsessed with the case. They start fresh in a new town, but Hen believes that the killer from Cambridge may be living right next door to them. You don’t really need to know anymore than that. The audio companion just so happens to be narrated by one of my favorites, Sophie Amoss, & it’s so fantastic I listened more than I read. I highly recommend this one! 4 1/2 ⭐️

This was a BOTM selection for me & I read it for an April Bookclub. Read in one day.

I figured out most of the book early on, but still enjoyed reading it.

Four stars. A good suspense/thriller book with an interesting take on the unreliable narrator. I was drawn in right away.
