This was a short little novella that didn’t read much like a story but more like a thought experiment. It was fun seeing these other worlds from the characters’ eyes. Ultimately, it asks you the question: is space travel for the sake of knowledge of value to us as a species?

This was a lovely surprise 5-star read for me! It's quick but encompassing. Vast yet personal. Chambers is able to craft four incredibly relatable and life-like characters into a scientific space opera with only 138 pages. The audiobook production was wonderful to listen to; I highly recommend (only around 4 hours in length).

I love delving into the nitty gritty of new worlds and settings, which is where this novella/short fiction can feel slow for some. Chambers' descriptions of completely imaginary creatures were so so good. I'm excited to add more of her work to my TRB list!

Becky Chambers is an amazing writer. She makes you think about what it is to be human (an animal) amidst so much other beauty and wonder in this world and beyond. I love her.

Becky Chambers does it again! So much heart and so many big ideas squeezed into one tiny novella.

Last night I got to watch meteors (actual meteors!) for the first time and it couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time. This book felt like a hug, a manifesto and a landscape painting all at once. Lush. Read this book!
