Struggling to figure out a star rating. Really enjoyed the writing. Just didn’t really feel connected to the story, but I think that was more of a me problem.
I think you should definitely read if the premise sounds interesting to you.

Too many of my five-star reviews involve me crying in public places, and this is no exception. I read the last few pages of this book through a haze of tears in a bathroom at work, then splashed cold water on my face and went back to the monotonous but vital everyday grind of science that Becky Chambers gets so well, feeling somehow both desolate and hopeful.

I'm writing and posting this on US election day, 2020; I'm sure I would have appreciated this book regardless but I cannot imagine a better story for me in this moment.

Fun short sci fi read, doesn’t resolve fully and that’s okay. Wish there was a epilogue chapter to see Earth’s POV.
