Every February I try to read at least one non-fiction book about black history, and this year I decided to pick up The Three Mothers. It follows the lives of Berdis Baldwin, Alberta King, and Louise Little, and how thier experiences shaped their famous sons. On top of all the information I learned, I really appreciated the view of the author that while these women were mothers, they were also so much more. It reminds me of the current organization "&Mother", which is focused on providing support to mothers to enable them to do more things while still being a mother. Absolutely highly recommend!

This book tells the powerful and untold history of Malcom X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and James Baldwin. This book is not just biographical, but is comprehensive history, a critique of patriarchy and racism, and a little memoir. The book is organized and reads a bit like the academic paper (which it started as), but the content was strong.
