It was a cute book with predictable YA story line. I picked it up randomly at the library so I’d have something easy to read during a surgical recovery. It delivered on all sides. The characters were believable and relatable.
emotional hopeful informative inspiring lighthearted reflective medium-paced

This was a perfect antidote to both the sad books that have been crossing my path and the actual dumpster of our current election.

Highly recommended as a happiness pill.

Nope, not a fan. What a perfect premise for 2020 the year this was released, but the political bender this story took was beyond tedious. I get it, young people are concerned about issues that affect them and their future - the should be so thank you for pointing that out. I agree 100% and encourage young people to know and understand the issues, research, research, research and be open to conversations and dialogue with people that moves and improves lives. What I didn't like was the undercurrent of liberalism that was everywhere. For those that say it kept things neutral - I heartily disagree. From voter suppression to pro-choice to gun control, all viewpoints were one-sided and told through the mouth of a young black girl and mixed race boy who fall in love in the midst of chaos. I dislike insta-love especially break up with your boyfriend and get with the new guy same day insta-love. Marva was tiresome, at least Duke was enjoyable and grounded in reality.

When I heard this book took place over the course of one day, I was skeptical. I mean, how much can really happen in the real world in a single day?
Apparently, enough to keep a realistic fiction book interesting.
I really enjoyed this book! It totally kept me engaged and it's also really important! I can't remember much of it because my brain is useless because I read it over a month ago, but I do remember being pleasantly surprised about how much I liked it.

A really good and necessary book for our times. This book has a few themes going - mostly the importance to vote and do as much as you humanly can to encourage others to vote. This book also discusses racism and how hard it is growing up in a world surrounded by racism. And it also has a bit of teenage angst in it. The storyline was really well thought out and the author did a great job with the characters and although I wasn't a big fan of the teenagery stuff, I enjoyed the story and how it progressed.

Really enjoyed this story and the dynamics it explored through the main characters.

Really loved this young adult book. I liked that it was about something current like voting. It is so relevant and eye opening to read about passionate teens fighting for their rights that are still being challenged. It really leaves you wondering how can I help with voter suppression? I also loved how the chapters skipped between the two main characters while also including deeper stories about other characters in the story.
Definitely recommend this one. I listened to it as an audiobook from Libro FM.

I absolutely love this book! I could relate to both main characters (especially Marva), and I loved how the importance of activism was woven throughout the book. It had the right amounts of humor, politics, romance, and all that fits in between. Highly recommend :)
