I loved this book when I was a kid & still enjoy reading it to this day. If you enjoy reading books about the love of a pet, you will love this book.

What do you rate a book that rips your heart out and then leaves you standing there lost in the memories of a little boy you’ll never hear from again….

I remembered this being sad in Elementary School, but after having that once in a lifetime dog? It’s so brutal to imagine what that kid went through.

Read for GAR.

It just gets better!

Words can’t describe how much I love this book. Each time I read it, I learn something I didn’t catch before. Yes, I started crying immediately upon starting the book (knowing the ending far too well), but oh the lessons in this book….you don’t need money to be happy; a true gift worth having is worth working for; dogs are God’s most amazing creations; and God truly works wonders. Oh I love Old Dan and Little Ann…and, of course, Billy. Man, I love this book!

This book ruined my life in the 5th grade. A heartbreaking tale of a boy experiencing love and loss. Truly wonderful what it does to the psyche of a child.
