I recently re-read this with my daughter. It's a great story to read with your kids. We cried all over again. A heart-felt, heart-warming book.
I remember reading this book in elementary school. I remember falling in love with these characters. It was one of the first books to actually make me cry.
Why did I wait so long to read this book? Such a good story.
This book is still the first book I ever cried reading. I think over the years I've read it probably close to 15 times. I need to read it again as I haven't however read it in many years.
Re-read it. This book captures the feeling of being a kid. Actions of Billy, his grit, bravery, and true heart is really something. Also, he's lucky to be born in such a good place with good people, otherwise this story would have been completely different.
This book has me bawling every time. One of my favorites and of course there are animals in it. Them coon hounds are the most precious.
Obviously a classic, so I thought I’d re-visit it, with the audio format.
Did a great job of dropping me into a different time/ place … I felt like I was in a remote, Southern woods-type area and about 70-80 years ago. Both a harder, and simpler time, depending on the aspects at hand.
This is a tale that’ll prompt nostalgia, heartache, and might even provoke thought. I recommend for all ages and walks of life.
Audio:
The narrator of this version did a great job, he sounded legitimate to the times/area to me (not that I have direct experience, so I could be wrong here). Overall great sound quality.
4 stars on each front.

Why do I continue to insist on reading this at work (for work) and crying at the service desk?
