I often really like sentimental books about disparate groups of people who come together and find they need one another, but with this book that just didn't happen for me. I think it's because I felt like this book was straining, like it was trying to hard to make me feel things, and I wish it would have just played out a little more organically.

I know for sure that my other problem with this book was Nora. She is just way too much of a saint and martyr. She has some resentment and anger simmering within her, and I think she would have been a better character had she shown more of this from the beginning, instead of always being so forbearing. It made her almost insufferable.

I did, however, love Vlado, and I'm thrilled when I read books with sweet, emotionally intelligent male characters. Give me more of this, please.

Not my usual pick but a decent easy read. The author did a good job weaving the characters together and I liked all of them, I think I would like more detail / background on them though.

So, this may be an odd one - I did not finish the book but I recommend others read it. Keep reading for my thoughts...

Imagine getting snowed in to your local library; stuck for an entire night with strangers. What would it be like? Could we take the night to get to know each other? Could we leave the next day with more peace than we started with?

I deal with chronic pain and this had such good representation of a woman who dealt with chronic pain for years. She was an older woman who had become bitter and impatient with others. I know I can be impatient when my pain flares up but I do not want to become that - I do not want those qualities to describe my personality. I had to stop reading, because it was a little too real for me and it touched a spot in my heart that holds a real fear.

I think this is going to be interesting for others though. I liked the "bottle episode" elements - everyone stuck only in the library for a snow storm. If you read it, let me know how you enjoyed it and your thoughts on the characters.

My new favorite of Melissa's books. Such a beautiful reflection on love, loss, grief, redemption, and letting go.

It took me awhile to read but I did enjoy this book. At first I felt Nora’s character was kind of flat and there wasn’t really much character development in the beginning. But the more I read and realized it wasn’t a lack of character development that’s just how she is. All she knew was to push her feelings away and that night of the snowstorm let her true self come out. I hated how she always apologized for asking a question because she tried to please everyone around her. And when I mean I hated that, I mean I hated that for her. How she felt she had to apologize after asking a question because she was just curious.

I enjoyed Marlene’s point of view the most and loved how she realized how wrong she was so quickly even if it did take her awhile to come out and say it.

I love that Vlado and Marlene decided to pursue their dreams. I love that Lewis ends up being 6 months sober. I love that Nora got to see her brother alive and well even if it means not being in each others lives like she hoped.

This book was a good read.

This was such a beautiful story! Five (very different) strangers get trapped in a library during a blizzard. The hours they spent together are life changing and each one of them emerges as a new person. I alternated between reading and listening to the free kindle audio. Although the narration was great, it felt like it took forever to reach the end! That is my only critique. This is definitely a slow story. Would make an excellent cozy winter read.

Read 6/12/2023 - eBook

Five people are trapped in a library during a blizzard in a small Colorado mountain town. In one night, their lives will forever be changed.

I think the book has a good premise, but it wasn't compelling, just predictable. It's no surprise what becomes of the characters and that heart-wrenching moment present in stories like these didn't really amount to much. I thought it was just ok.
