I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun and easy listen.
I will say I guessed who the murderer was pretty early on, but I still had fun listening to how the characters all found out.
Emma will always have a special place in my heart, so it's always fun to see how she might have lived life after Jane Austen's book.

This book is a. Follow up to Jane Austen’s Emma (now Knightly) who is married to George Knightly and she has settled into life as a wife of a local magistrate. She is visiting with Harriet Martin, wife of a tenant farmer of. Mr. Knightly when they are called to the church and find the body of the wife of the local vicar, Augusta Elton, on the alter steps. We enter into Emma’s investigation of the murder much to her husband’s chagrin and the antipathy of the local sheriff and doctor/coroner. Finding the murderer proves to be almost a full time job.
This is a Regency Historical Mystery and is soothing as well as entertaining. I enjoyed the book and felt that the story was a cozy mystery so I suspended belief enough to enjoy the story. The. Characters were pleasant, sympathetic with just enough negative characters to keep the story going. The marriage between Emma and George has developed into a comfortable relationship. Although not a page turner or a suspenseful thriller, the book was a warm, comfy story. Recommend to readers of cozy historical mystery.

Rounded up from 3.5
The author did a great job capturing the characters from Jane Austen's Emma (I imagined the actors from the Gwyneth Paltrow/Jeremy Northam version) and the location of Highbury. The murderer was pretty easy to guess from the beginning, but this is a cozy mystery so it really wasn't supposed to be about the mystery. The author seems to be setting up a romance between Miss Bates and Mr. Woodhouse!
However, it was very draggy in the middle. Often repetitive. About 100 pages too long.

A fun little Jane Austen-inspired mystery. A little predictable but enjoyable to read about familiar characters in new situations.
Entertaining little historical murder mystery. Emma is your amateur sleuth and stands up for herself when it was in the time that men thought women were fragile. ha! She knows better and she shows them that.
