Not nearly as good as the first book and definitely didn’t need to be as long as it was. Every interaction between Violet and Xaden was frustrating because they would get interrupted right before they could resolve anything, then rehashed the same argument for at least half of the book. I was addicted to the dumpster fire and sped through this book within a week, but the ending does not have me on the edge of my seat waiting for the 3rd one to be released.

I listened to this as an audiobook so I think it meant I enjoyed the world building and info dumping more than if I had read it.

Overall I did enjoy this book and want to continue the series, I think one of the main reasons this is a bit disappointing is because of how enjoyable Fourth Wing is compared to it. It was somehow too fast and slow of a plot outline, some things happened quicker than expected and some things were dragged out so it’s a hard one for pace I think is where the main problems lie.

Still enjoyed, I liked a lot of it, the dragons are cuties and a lot of good character development.
