"The world keeps spinning because your heartbeats exist."
- childhood friends to lovers
- brother's best friend
- 🌶️/5 (mostly fade-to-black)
- dual pov
Oh, look, another beautiful Brittainy Cherry book overflowing with the perfect balance of heartfelt and heartbreaking moments. Every time there's a heartwarming moment, you'll anxiously wait for the heartbreak to follow. But there's such a beautiful HEA that the emotional rollercoaster is worth the ride.
A traumatic event as a child left Maggie mute and unable to leave her family home. But that doesn't stop her from falling in love with her brother's best friend, Brooks.
Their love is so soft and tender, and I love Brooks's love for her. From the anchor necklace ("I'll be your anchor. I'll help you stay grounded when you feel like you're drifting away) to taping up all her books to reading books with her to sharing his love of music with her to THIS:
"I need you to know that even if you decide to never speak again, you'll always have someone around to hear you, Maggie. All right? I'll always be there to listen to your silence." 🥺
There are many things I love about Brittainy's writing. One of them is each book's layers and symbolism. While this book focuses on Brooks and Maggie's love story, it's also about their personal journeys, their resilience, and how they always find their way back to each other. There's also the layer of their relationship mirroring her parents.
I won't say more for fear of spoilers. But know that if you pick up The Silent Waters, you're in for an emotional and endearing read that will stay with you.

emotional
This book is SO beautifully written! I loved the characters, their development, and the connection to books and music throughout the book.
Probably 2.5 stars here. This book had me turning pages quickly to find out what happened it had a few problems. If you're going to address a serious mental illness in your story it needs to be done somewhat realistically. And while this story was very sweet it lacked realism. Love alone cannot mend our broken pieces. We have to do that, usually with the help of a professional.
This book is another friends-to-lovers, second chance romance. It’s about a girl named Maggi that experiences something so traumatic at the age of 6 that it renders her mute through her adult life. Her childhood friend, Brooks, promises to watch over her and to be her “anchor.” They become close and they eventually fall in love.
Brooks goes off to chase his dreams and continues to be her anchor until tragedy finds him as well. Maggi’s past trauma / PTSD holds her back from living a “normal” life but she eventually finds her independence.
I’m beginning to realize that Brittainy likes to include a bit of suspense in her books. Like, something explosive / jaw-dropping always happens toward the end. It definitely gets my heart pumping, lol! The story was great, if not a little predictable, but still a worthwhile read. 4.5⭐️

I am in love with this book and have spent the half a day it took me to read it crying and sobbing, connecting with these characters and feeling every single emotion they felt. Oh my god this is one of the best books I've ever read
I can always count on Brittainy for a good cathartic cry. Oh my god I just loved Brooks and Maggie so much. Such a sweet and pure love they had for each other, full of so much understanding.
Easiest 5 stars I’ve ever handed out. I couldn’t even begin to express the brilliance that is this book but I will try. RTC
So after thinking on the book for a while, I've come to the conclusion that I would have written a different story for Maggie and Brooks.
I'm not the author, and this is Maggie and Brook's story, and while it's sad, it is their journey.
This book didn't really teach me love prevails, more like life isn't fair.
I hate that feeling.
This books and is highly rated and I'm not surprised, the writing is beautiful, and is certain to give you all the feels.
I just felt Maggie was enabled, and that is what bothered me the most. It was just a bunch of sad moments.
I felt depressed most of the book.
