YOU DID IT AGAIN!

I can't even begin to put into words just how much I love your writing. I look forward to all your book releases. I'm counting down with You! This book was so beautiful. EVERY time I pick up an Elements book I tell myself, "this book is breaking my heart! I can't!" But I NEVER put it down bc it's so beautifully written and they have the most amazing and unique story lines. They challenge me as a reader to try not to cry my eyes out lol. I fall in love with all your characters, I feel their pain in my soul. And it's amazing how you can do that. Congratulations on another wonderful installment and on your superb writing skills. I'll be waiting for earth!

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
However the resolution was rushed compared to the slow heartbreak of the build up

DNF, I wasn’t sold on the plot. Why on earth would loving parents let their very functional child become a nonfunctional recluse, especially at the expense of their other kids?

DID NOT FINISH: 69%

for my own sake, i need to dnf this. it was starting to feel repulsive to me.

going into this book, i thought that the male lead was the one not speaking. but for some reason, the female being the one not talking just feels really creepy to me.

also, this whole story being a childhood to lovers type of situation... i mean, this doesnt usually work for me as a concept, but in this context, its even worse. i couldnt silence the voice in my head screaming it was predatory.

also,
are we never going to talk about the murder? nobody looked for this woman? nobody found her body? nobody asked questions? nobody send the female lead to therapy? they just let her rot like this? also, and this might not be really important, but how is she not handicapped? im just confused. i have so many questions. some of them might get resolved by the end of this book but at this point, i dont care at all.

Finally! I have been wanting to try this author for the second time for so long now. It has been YEARS since I read Loving Mr. Daniels... and though that book wasn’t a favorite, I knew this author had so much potential.

This one was so good! It wasn’t a five star for me, for a couple of reasons, but I really enjoyed it.

I went in totally blind (as usual) and had no idea what I was in for. I did not even read the blurb, which is my favorite way to read.

Here’s what I loved:

Brooks and Maggie.
The band.
Cheryl.
The writing.
How well developed Maggie’s character was- all without dialogue.
Maggie and Brooks at the cabin.
How special this book was to the author!

Here’s what I struggled with:

How long Maggie struggled with her past. I kept waiting for some kind of change. It was too long to be believable.
How therapy/outside help wasn’t really mentioned as part of her recovery (as far as I can remember anyway).

Super interesting coincidence while reading this book in the middle of a pandemic. (I think Ms. Cherry might have a touch of psychic ability.) This is an excerpt from a letter Brooks was writing to Maggie:

January 5th, 2020.
Magnet,
The band is in Tokyo this week......There’s this nasty cold going around, and I have fallen as the next victim to the plague....

That part made me pause. This book was written in 2016. Kinda spooky.

Anyway, overall I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author!
