I wasn’t sure when I this was picked for my book club’s monthly read, but I quickly fell in to this novel.

I think it’s best not to say too much, as I think the journey I took with the characters in their chapters was the best part of this book. What’s important (and not too revealing) to know is that these complex women have lives that bring them together in the end. And there is something beautiful in how Frances Cha has done this. The women aren’t perfect, and there are ideas I would challenge, but that’s what makes this book so real.

If you have experienced what it is like to live as a woman in society, this book will strike a chord.

The story follows a set of flawed and distinct characters in interwoven tape that really highlights how South Korean women struggles and how they're valued in society. It's very much plot driven and I really enjoyed reading about each character - my favourite being Kyuri because you can see how the others perceive her due to her job and lifestyle then you see things from her perspective and how much family means to her.

The ending is somewhat open ended, leaving it on a somewhat lighter note with the characters moving on from their previous situation but still in a similar cycle as before. The only one I was a bit unsatisfied with was Wonna's story.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I finished it in less than 24 hours. I enjoyed the setting, all the girls, and hearing their stories. It is an incredibly short book though and like other reviews suggest I think there were too many topics to actually deeply explore in such a short span of time. I was definitely longing to hear more of all the stories but I suppose in the end it did all wrap up well enough. The parts that weren’t gone into detail about my mind can easily fill in the gaps. Overall, it was a very enjoyable book.
