This is one of the darkest UF series I've ever read. The most of the vamps are evil. They feed not only on blood, but on emotions (fear, pain and pleasure, there is even talk of joy). Even the vamps who feed off pleasure and joy are evil as they for things on the humans and still kill them without thought. Just like with anything though, not all the vamps are evil. Their is one that fed on pain, but while magic still worked, he spent his time in the ER of a hospital, so he could feed on pain without causing it.

There are werewolves who need meat to survive, but with magic failing they have a very limited supply of beef and pork, so they've moved to humans and even vampires. They have found that if they are careful, they can feed from the vamps without killing them and that they will continuously regenerate the meat that they need.

Our main character, Quinn, is a sorceress who the vamps are depending on to renew the magic that is destroying Vamp City. Problem is, she doesn't know how to renew the magic she has spent her entire life hiding.

I really enjoy the dark aspects about this story. I wish this story had more of the action and suspense that book one had. This one did have more on the relationship between Arturo and Quinn. The stories for both Zack and Lily are still up in the air. It will be very interesting to see where they go. I can't wait for book three.

Even though I didn’t wow and wed myself to the first book, it’s pages still filled my mind with a unique, chilling alternate world full of villains on every street corner. The ending was an especially powerful push to continue the series with a secretive change coming over the devilishly dark Arturo.

Unfortunately this somewhat sanitized sequel dampened the original’s spark. There’s a lot of emotional drama and the sexual tension doesn’t strike me as believable. Think of historical romances where they accidentally touch each other and lightning strikes. There was a scene in the middle where this especially annoyed me (pre-drink) where she gets uncontrollably turned on just by touching his back slightly in a room full of people. All of this was during a dangerous time where they’re not supposed to show any interest in each other. I mean, seriously – are you a mindless animal? The saving grace of this soon is it soon actually gets twisted and hot.

Pacing is slightly lackluster since much time is spent discussing consequences of the ‘big bad’ catching them and a massive villain fight, but that doesn’t even happen in this book. Thankfully the book gets better within the last 60 pages or so, but reading up to that point wasn’t an enjoyable as it should have been. Cliffhangers should be handled delicately, and this one’s TV season finale form was a turn off. The abrupt cut off is just strange and frustrating.

Arturo was a sexy, flawed guy in the original. Now in order to redeem him and make him more classically likeable, the author has stripped him of his mysterious nature, making him more generic to the masses. Now he resembles about every Tom, Dick and Harry out there in Paranormal Romance. He spends most of the book trying to prove himself to Quinn. At least in the first book, where he was half hero but half villain, I was kept on the edge of my seat. Quinn is likeable, although her obsessive caring about her brother is a bit hollow. Watching her discover and develop her newfound abilities intrigued me. I did adore the newcomer vampire friend.

The clichéd Paranormal Romance elements have been upped, and the tone is less dark. The werewolf scene was particularly brutal, though – mean, nasty, nasty creatures. I do totally dig the author’s invented world and the differences between Emoras and the rippers. Awesome imagination.

Overall this book disappointed me. It’s still a chilling, dark tale, but it’s less so than before and the stakes aren’t set as high. Sensual scenes are hot enough but the hero lacks as much of a mysterious aura and doesn’t deliver as much excitement. Besides ending on a big cliffhanger, this second book doesn’t even really propel the main story.

The second book in the Vamp City series by Pamela Palmer did not disappoint. We pick up about a month after Quinn and her brother get out of Vamp City, thanks to the dark and untrustworthy - yet sexy as hell - Arturo. A series of events bring both Quinn and Zack back to Vamp City, and they are forced to work with, and trust Arturo who is determined to earn Quinn's trust.

Arturo regrets several of the choices he made in their earlier interactions and seeing him try to make things right, and peeking into his inner thoughts was a lot of fun for me. Even with all the underhanded things he did in [b:A Blood Seduction|12907355|A Blood Seduction (Vamp City, #1)|Pamela Palmer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1325986333s/12907355.jpg|18061985], I wanted to love him and trust him implicitly. He is a fabulous hero, and the way Palmer writes him, with his facial expressions, and smoldering looks, makes me want to put my life on the line just to be with him.

Quinn, understandably, has some issues working with Arturo. But I think she started trusting him a bit too soon, although that may be because he really is the only person/vampire she knows in V.C. and he says he is going to help her and protect her, and to get her mission accomplished she has to rely on others. But in her defense, she doesn't just fall back into bed with him. In her situation I probably would have! He is a pretty sexy beast. She is also a lot more confident, which makes sense having gone through what she has. I liked her a lot more in [b:A Kiss of Blood|16065477|A Kiss of Blood (Vamp City, #2)|Pamela Palmer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1356279403s/16065477.jpg|21856116] than in [b:A Blood Seduction|12907355|A Blood Seduction (Vamp City, #1)|Pamela Palmer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1325986333s/12907355.jpg|18061985].

Overall, this is a great follow-up to a great book, and I very much look forward to future installments in the Vamp City series from Ms. Palmer.

Better then the first book at least. Although, it would have been nice if she would have resisted the vampire a little better. I think that it would have made the plot more interesting.

Quinn's story continues and so does her unhealthy attachment to her brother.

The two siblings are out of Vamp City, but leaving has apparently caused something to go wrong with Quinn's brother and once again, she's determined to do anything and everything she can to save him. That decision and the vampire who helped but also betrayed her, Arturo Mazza, lead them back to Vamp City and a race against time to learn how to use her sorceress powers to save that much hated city for her brother's sake.

Quinn is stubborn and ignorant, but unwavering, spending all of her time focused on her goal and not really caring about anyone but her brother.

You push away anyone who could possible care about you. Why is that

Arturo, who has come to care for her quite a bit, does everything he can to help her and gain back her trust.

Their adventure finally leads them to the moment they were working towards and her chance to use her powers and save Vamp City, but
Spoilerrightly so, she fails to do it, hampered as she is with the curse of part of her bloodline and still pretty much a novice at sorcery
.

Their journey doesn't end here, but they now have another objective and more plans to make in the next book of the series [b:Of Blood and Passion|20652002|Of Blood and Passion (Vamp City, #3)|Pamela Palmer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1430331895s/20652002.jpg|39947098].

I really enjoyed this new installment in the series. It took me awhile to understand what is happening. But the story was in a good pace and the I enjoyed it. Will read the next book.

I thought it was better than the first, perhaps much better, but I am not a fan of the endings of these books. They read like they are a piece of a larger book and when the author hits her word count she just stops. Cliff hangers? Kind of but not the sort that makes you crazy. The kind that leaves you uncomfortably dissatisfied. The kind the feels like the book is unfinished.

I walk away from the books and instead of remembering how dark and gritty the world is, the trials and tribulations and growth of the characters, what stands out in my memory is that the book just stopped instead of ending, and I feel marginally manipulated if not blatantly.
