I think this is my new favorite so far. We are certainly ramping up in the world building department as well as carnage and mayhem. Very interested to see what happens next.

Thomas being so disgusted with Harry and the throwaway line of “thank god Nicodemus is a man”. Just. That’s comedy

James marsters narration of this book is flawless, and makes the more annoying characters traits of harry almost bearable. My man keeps telling me the misogyny gets better but if it doesn’t get better soon I’m gonna have to give up on this series. The plot is interesting every time and I enjoy so many things about so many of the characters. Then harry says or thinks some wild shit and I just hating him again. Anyways enjoyed everything else about this book though.

Small Favor is another strong entry in The Dresden Files, with Jim Butcher delivering exactly what he does best which is a fast-paced, tightly woven urban fantasy that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

One of the highlights for me was the character development. Molly continues to grow in intriguing ways, and I enjoyed learning more about Ivy, who is a fascinating figure in the series. The character interactions felt dynamic and believable, adding depth to the action-heavy plot.

Michael’s self-righteous streak grated on me at times, but I appreciate that Butcher writes his characters with consistent voices, flaws and all. That authenticity makes the ensemble cast feel all the more real.

The plot itself is sharp and engaging, filled with twists, tension, and moments of genuine stakes but I’ll avoid giving away specifics. Suffice it to say, Dresden is once again juggling impossible odds, dangerous bargains, and moral grey areas, all while the fate of more than just himself hangs in the balance.

Overall, Small Favor was a gripping, character-driven ride that blended action, humour, and heart. Fans of the series will find a lot to love here, and it’s left me eager to dive into the next instalment.
