I was given Chasing River from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cute read. I thought with it being an adult book it would be a little more "adult" but it didn't take away from the story at all. River & Rowen are definitely adorable and I love them both. Amber wasn't whiney and I am so glad! I wanted to kill Aengus 90% of the time. Every time he showed up I wanted to just get locked up or killed already. Harsh? I also want to know more about Ivy, I really enjoyed her and would like her story. I need to just read the other books because this was just a great book with great writing.

This was a sweet read and I loved River and it taking place in Ireland. It was a little slow and took a bit to pick up and for the flame to ignite between them. Overall, I enjoyed it though ♥️
Chasing River is now tied with my favourite ever K.A. Tucker book, The Simple Wild. If you’ve read The Simple Wild and loved it, you’ll definitely enjoy Chasing River because they’re similar in a lot of ways.
I’m not sure if Tucker has visited Ireland herself, but reading Chasing River I truly felt like I was experiencing Dublin. Like The Simple Wild, Tucker’s writing allows readers to easily imagine the setting she’s created with ease. Ireland is picturesque in its beauty and that comes through Tucker’s writing flawlessly.
What sets Chasing River apart from most romance novels set in foreign countries is Tucker’s inclusion of Ireland’s fraught history. Tucker is able to clearly communicate to the reader the deep historical roots of the country through the plot in a relevant fashion. This only enhances readers’ connection to the story. At the beginning of the novel, there’s an author’s note that quickly details key historical points that are relevant to the story. There is so much I do not know about Ireland, but Chasing River has given me a starting point. I also need to visit Ireland sooner rather than later!
The romance between Amber and River is filled with tense, adorable, and sexy moments throughout the novel. Amber and River are two very different people from two very different lifestyles. Their connection is instantaneous, but they have several physical, emotional, and mental hurtles to clear before their relationship can progress. Watching them deal with these hurtles is exciting and heart breaking at times.
Overall, Chasing River is the best of this companion series so far. I cannot believe its taken me this long to read them since I’ve always been a fan of Tucker’s work. I would recommend reading the previous novels first even though it’s a companion series, though it’s not required.

I keep saying that K. A. Tucker is a fantastic author and it's because she truly is. I always get so into her stories and leave me wanting for more. Seriously, this book needed another epilogue... It needed to be Epilogue part 2. I wanted more to that ending but it still was a great ending—more than I could have asked for.
You guys know that I always like when I can connect to characters and I'm glad to say that I saw myself in Amber in various occasions. Amber has always been the good girl, she has always followed the rules. Now, she goes travelling in Europe, a place where I dream of going and having a road-trip. Amber made a bucket-list with Alex for when she would go to Europe and I have to say, I'm saving that list for when I travel. She is also very driven and she is a stubborn one, for sure.
When River collides with her and saves her life, she can't stop thinking about him and goes in search for him, even if she has to chase him. I honestly had no idea how River would be projected. I wasn't sure how to feel about him in the beginning. I liked him fine but I wasn't completely drawn to him like I was with Luke from Becoming Rain. As the story progresses, I was drawn to him and Amber. I was definitely not expecting him to be the full-on gentleman he is and how caring he is for Amber, especially since he just met her. Their attraction and chemistry was there, for sure.
The supporting characters, I have nothing to argue against them. Rowen is River's brother and is the flirt who's funny and is caring and had me grinning quite a lot. I definitely loved Ivy a lot! She is bad-ass and she deserves her own story because I want more of her. If a story happens there, it will be highly entertaining because she doesn't take shit from anyone. River's parents were a lovely addition to the story, even though we don't read much about them but what we do read, they are fantastic and loving parents. Then there is the Sherriff. He does make appearances in this book, which I'm sure many of you would love. He is still very stubborn but he loves his daughter very much and it shows.
Gabe finally turns and meets my eyes. "You'll never be good enough for my daughter."
I smile. "But I'll never stop trying to be."
As I mentioned earlier, K. A. Tucker always has me submerged into her stories but I didn't realize just how much until River is telling a story one night and I literally forgot where I was. I plunged in head-first into River's story-telling and I was hooked, wanting more and more, which I certainly got—I even want a novella based on this story because it is simply amazing.
The story had it's intense moments but I will be honest and say, I was expecting more of it—more action, more suspense—since the first two books delivered these two so well and had me on the edge. Still, this story was a marvelous addition to the Burying Water series and will not leave readers disappointed.

Chasing River by K.A. Tucker
Recommendation: dark romance, adventure, NA
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Armed with two years worth of savings, sheltered Amber Welles leaves her Oregon town with the hopes of discovering herself abroad. However, her plans are derailed after a near death experience in Dublin. If it wasn't for a mysterious stranger with soulful green eyes, Amber would not have made it one day in Dublin however he vanishes before she is able to thank him for saving her life.
After saving Amber's life, River Delaney vanishes without a trace in order to protect himself from being identified for the crime. River is tired of cleaning up his brother's mess. His everyday life running his family's pub is become harder and harder after his ex-con brother becomes a part of a dangerous and violent crowd. When Amber tracks him down to thank him for saving her he realizes his feelings for Amber are growing deep.
When their attraction becomes too much to ignore will Amber continue to chase after River or will she just run?
This is the third book in K.A.Tucker's Burying Water Series and just like the others is delivers in the emotional depth and struggles present in everyday life.
I actually think I'm starting to like this series more than Ten Tiny Breaths which is saying a lot because I really enjoyed those books however these are rocking my socks off. I love the gritty darkness in this series. K.A. Tucker doesn't shy away from the dark terrible parts of life.
We met Amber Welles in the first book Burying Water. She is Jesse's sister and bestie to the MC however, this one is all her and I liked getting to know her (even if she was like crazy judgmental at times). She finally decides to go off on the adventure she's been saving up for and begins to travel the world. She finally makes it to Dublin and after being there for like 20 minutes she's already in a tough spot. She is saved and pushed out of the way by a mysterious man. However having a bomb explode a mere 20 feet away from you can put a damp on a trip and Amber finds herself constantly thinking about her savior.

Having loved the previous two books in this New Adult series, I'm not sure why I went into this one with some sort of skepticism. I thought that I couldn't love a new couple more than I already do Jesse/Alex & Rain/Luke...Once again K.A. Tucker has managed to suck me in with her deeply layered characters, beautiful settings, and crazy story telling. I ADORE Amber & River to pieces!!!! This time we were transported to beautiful Ireland & given a good amount of historical background on the events that lead to the formation of the IRA. Up until this book, I only knew of a great famine in Ireland but not much more. It's only a plus when I come away with knowledge of actual historical events from a book that isn't non-Fiction. We also get to see some of our favorite characters from book 1 make an appearance in this book in K.A. Tucker fashion. Rich with Irish history, obstacles to overcome, violence, and amazing characters, this story of 2 lovers from opposite sides of the world was a smash hit in my book! ;)
